The defrost thermostat is not working and the evaporator compartment is blocked with ice. That will stop cold air from entering into the fresh food compartment.
Move your food to another refrigerator, then unplug and open the Samsung refrigerator for 24 hours and allow the ice to melt.
Then remove the freezer panel inside and locate and replace the little plastic tube like part that is zip tied to the expansion tubing. It should have 2 brown wires coming out of the plastic sealed tube/ thermostat part. Write down your model number and go to Samsung's website or searspartsdirect and buy a new thermostat.
I believe the operating range for said thermostat is 20 C to -5 C. you'll most probably have to cut the wires and splice in the new thermostat. You can also use a generic thermostat with the same or nearly the same ratings of 20/-5 C temp.
All the thermostatic switch does is control the defrost heating element that melts the ice off the evaporator every 10 to 12 hour cycle via the defrost timers switch located at the bottom rear of the refrigerator. You can turn the clock counter clock wise until the first loud click to force the machine into defrost as well. Although if the defrost heating element, thermistor, THERMOSTAT, or defrost timer switch has malfunctioned there will not be a defrost cycle and ice will form inside the ducting and evaporator compartment and block the cold air circulation and the fresh food compartment will not cool and the freezer section will barely freeze water.

SOURCE: FRIDGE/FREEZER MODEL: SR42NMB Multi Frost

You have a clogged defrost drain tube. best way is to thaw unit out. Your vents are being blocked so no air flow is pushed down.

SOURCE: Power is on but nothing is working, not cold ,no water, no ice

Sounds like the unit needs a reset of sorts, Get your food into another refrigerator or ice chests and unplug the unit. let it stand open for several hours (just in case the vents are iced) and then plug it back in.

SOURCE: Freezer works ref does not

That is your problem the Freezer Fan supplies air for the freezer as well as the refrigerator. If the rpm are not high enough the frig does not get cool. I just replaces this fan and that was the solution

SOURCE: fridge not working properly on kenmore bottom freezer model 596.7

I have a similar problem, although I have no cooling in the fridge section. Had a repair man indicate that the electrical panal(pcb board) needs to be replaced. It is on order ($200). Sure hope that is the issue. To me, it appeared that the freezer fan(which cools the fridge) was not working. Whether that is the result of a faulty electrical panal is yet to be determined. Good luck!

The food on the refrigrator side is freezing. the water line is not working so i assume its frozen as well.

Hello Tina,

The problem with it freezing in the freshfood section is going to be because the air damper that opens and closes to let cold into the ref. section is stuck open and too much cold air is entering into the ref. compartment. This is a fairly common occurence with the GE refrigs. and by replacing the fresh food air damper which is located in the upper left corner of the fresh food compartment it will open and close properly and not allow too much cold air to enter where upon it freezes everything.

Will freezer work in low ambient temperature (i.e. 26'F)? I have a GE refrigerator/freezer (c. 1983) in a cabin which gets winter temps around 25 degrees. I found the freezer contents had melted and then...

The compressors are rated for ambient temp. and most refrigerator compressors are rated for abour 50 degrees F

to answere your question yes the ambient temp is a problem.

And as for the Thawing, the refrigerator will go into defrost every 8 to 10 hrs and turn on the heater inside the freezer for about 30 min.

You can also cause damage to the seal system and the compressor because the oil will become slugish inside the compressor.

In other resarch I found that because of the ambient temp the freon gas (mostly the newer freon's) won't work corectly because they stay in liqued form.

Refrigerator compartment cools correctly for a few days then no longer receives cold air from freezer. The freezer continues to operate and gets much colder than it should.

does your fan blow? freezers have a fan that pushes cold air to the fridge side if fan is bad freezer will run extremely cold and fridge won't cool down and since frige won't cool down thermostat in fridge doesn't tell compressor to stop

Drinking water stopped working

Check for air leaks where the air tower enters the fresh food area. It is likely you have a poor seal and that is causing cold air to enter the FF compartment unregulated and has frozen the chilled water tank (coiled up tubing)
