So that is what I did. Today when I was shotting picture it said the same thing as yesterday Built in memory full. Help.

The built-in memory only has about 8 pictures or so. You have to buy a memory card to insert in the same section where the batteries are inserted.

Why can't I download pictures to computer?

You can do that by two methods.

1. Memory Media
The E40 accepts SD and SDHC memory cards and has approximately 10MB of internal storage.

Insert the memory into your laptop SD card slot.
You may not need a SD Card carrier as the SD type for both Camera and laptop is same.

2. Connectivity
There is a USB/AV connector on the side of the camera as well as a dock connector on the bottom of the camera.

I have a Pentax Optio E40 and get the message that the built in memory is full. How can I see what is in that memory? Can I delete those pictures to clear the memory?

Yes you can play back the images and/or delete them from the internal memory from the camera. I strongly recommend an SD card in the future. The internal memory can hold a maximum of about 87 pictures at the lowest resolution (2 pictures at the highest resolution). It'll be easiest to view the current pictures without an SD card in place.

To view the pictures, press the playback button (above and to the left of the 4-way arrow buttons) on the back of the camera. Use the left/right buttons in that 4-way area to navigate through the pictures. (You'll start at the last photo.) If you want to start the camera in playback mode, just press and hold the playback button while you turn on the camera.

To delete the picture that you are looking at, press the green/trash button to the right of the Menu button. Then press the up/down arrows to reach Delete and click OK (in the center of the 4-way buttons). (See Page 100 (page 102) of the manual.)

If you press the green button twice, you'll get a prompt to Delete all. That is similarly navigated with the up/down arrows and then OK.

Ricoh owns the Pentax Optio Line and has the manuals here: http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/support/download-details/356 . (You'll need Adobe Reader to access the program.) The user manual is the second link.

I hope this helps.

I have pentax digital camera how to turn off green mode from pentax optio E40

Press cursor-down, then use the cursor keys to select the desired mode. See the descriptions beginning on page 50 of this manual: http://c758710.r10.cf2.rackcdn.com/files/support/manual/356_1314745005-527808376_manual.pdf

I have a pentax optio E40 camera. The screen reads card locked and I cant get it open

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
If this doesn't do it, try a different card.

Camera will not connect

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Optio e40

The Best solution is to get an SD card reader. Then you take the SD memory card out of the camera, put the SD card into the reader and plug directy into a USB port.  They are very cheap to buy and quite handy.
