Server shuts off.

Hi. In the last week, the server has shut completely down three times. I replaced the batteries in the PDU. Power went out again. I swapped out the PDU with a temporary surge protector. Power went out again. I replaced the surge protector with a new 30 min. UPS, but the server would not turn on. So I ran the power cord directly to the electrical outlet and after 15 minutes of being offline the server booted up. I am worried to shutdown the server and plug back into the UPS due to the server is supporting a retail store at the moment. Any suggestions.

Thanks,

Most likley you have an overheating problem .. (especially if it booted after being off (I.e. allowed to coll down) for a while)

I would check for dust blocked heatsinks / broken fans around the CPU chips ..

Thanks for the suggesting the power pack. It seems there are memory parity issues and sensors on the motherboard also affecting the performance of this out-dated server. I guess it is time to replace.

Ps3 internet connection error 80028ea6

i got this error 80028ea6 while trying to connect my ps3 to the internet through ps3 proxy server. what fixed it for me is, I had to reset my proxy server (shut it down). Before shutting it down there is a tab for replacing files. Make sure you remove all files from this tab and then shutdown. next restart proxy server and make sure there is nothing under replace files tab. To prevent this error from happening again when you go to replace files, replace them one file at a time. proxy server can not replace more than one .pkg at a time.

How to replace raid card battery

Firstly, shut down the server. Open the top cover and look for the RAID card battery. Should be easy enough to spot it. Unplug it from the board and replace with the new one. Power on your server and look for change notifications.

How big is your UPS backup. Small home / office only last a few hours before the battery drains. Their role is to allow time to save work and shut properly. Large enterprise UPS's last longer, but are dependent on battery bank size and configuration.

Voice light computer has been shutting down and will only work after rebooting with power switch. At first it shut down rarely, maybe once every two months. Then it became once a month, once a week and...

This is likely one of two things:

A power supply issue in which case you have the power supply replaced.

The server is overheating. There could be many reasons for this: Dust, loose parts, bad ventilation, etc.

My netgear ps101 went sleeping, cannot be ping. But after power on/off it's ok, then not long after that it went sleeping again.

Somewhere in the setup instructions type the ipaddress of the router in internet explorer and if you have the correct credentials to get in this device you may set the sleep time or shut that off

Battery backup I have a server running 750watts powersupply, has intel xeon 1.6 (2 x quad core) 2 scsi drives, 4 SATA drives and 4gb ram. Will 1300 watts battery backup be enough?

I have a similar setup on my Small Business Server and an 1100 Watt backup. It will run my server for 30 to 45 minutes and sends the signal to shut the server down when power gets critical so my server will do a clean shutdown. I've replaced the battery once in 3 years so I would say the 1300 Watt UPS will be sufficient to operate your server for a short period of time before doing a clean shutdown. (You may get an hour or so out of it before it shuts your system down). Be sure it has either a serial or usb connection to keep your server apprised of its status.
