Replace the gas safety valve thermocouple,it has a thin coil of copper colored tubing going from the safety gas valve into the pilot light flame and as the flame heats the copper tube end it keeps the gas valve open to supply gas to the unit, they get old from being in a flame and cant signal the gas valve to stay open any longer, they just unscrew out of the gas valve and the opposite end is positioned in the tip of the pilot flame to heat it

Oven not working properly

I just solved this problem with my GE gas range. I waited forever for the oven to warm up. The igniter would glow, light the burner and burn for a minute or so and go out. It would repeat this process till oven reached operating temp, which took forever. Problem is in the igniter. It may be glowing, but it is not letting the gas valve stay open, because it is not hot enough to create resistance in it to keep gas valve open. I had replaced the thermostat thinking it was the problem. The good part about it was I could take it back because my buddy works at supply house. Once the igniter was replaced, the oven fired up and stayed lit till operating temp was reached. It will also hold the oven temp much better. Oh yea, the igniter will stay glowing while the burner is on. Hope this helps.

Frigidaire Gas Oven

The igniter needs to be replaced. I had the exact same thing happen to my oven. The igniter would glow, but after tested, it did not have enough amperage to actually ignite the gas, so the gas kept running with no ignition. You can get a replacement at an appliance parts store. If you have a friend or relative who is a heating/air conditioning repairperson they can test your current igniter. Good luck!

Oven Ignitors

The igniter will remain on because it controls the gas valve.
