If the needle is not in all the way it will bottom out in the shuttle, or if you bought new needles and accedently got the wrong ones. If the needle does not enter the needle plate far enough to be bottoming out then the machine is out of time. You know i was about to hit post it and I realized I didn't think about, if the needle is bent it will hit the hook. so check those things hope it works out.

I was sewing with my CG590 singer machine and then my needle broke. So I put in a new needle, and now it seems like it is hitting something when it goes down. What could this be and how do I fix it?

If the needle hit something (which is usually what happens when the needle breaks), it could very well have knocked the machine out of time. You can try installing another needle (make sure it is installed facing the correct direction) and see if that changes things. If it continues to hit something, you can search the internet for web sites and videos discussing "sewing machine timing" or take it for service.

Making knocking sound and sitches ok foe a while then jams up & fabric stops feeding.

Depends on your machine. If it is mechanical, it most likely needs a good cleaning and oiling or there are parts that are loose or worn. A mechanical machine will sound a lot quieter after it is oiled.

Also, if the machine suddenly starts making a different sound, try installing a new needle. the needle may be bent or nicked and is hitting on something.

Needle seems to be hitting on something. Needle not bent and is inserted properly. It's sewing ok, just a clicking noise when needle is down. Old machine Elna Diva. About 25-30 years old.

Try installing a brand-new needle and make sure it is inserted all the way up into the needlebar. It if continues to hit, the machine quite possibly is out of time.

Open up the bobbin case and remove the bobbin and case. There may be something catching on the hook (random thread) that is preventing the motion. The bobbin case could be off-kilter as well. If that is not it, take the cover off the sewing head and see what is blocking the mechanical parts of the levers.

My needle is hitting something when it goes down to meet the bobbin

Try checking your needle. Make sure that it has not slipped down.

I volunteer at a women's prison in their sewing class and we have model 385-16231301. The bobbin thread does not pick up. The bobin case seems to sit in their properly, but when I turn it manually...

check the needle to make sure that it's inserted correctly, the flat side of the needle goes to the back of the machine,, and make sure the needle goes all the way up into the needle cavity .

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted

clean under the needle plate area & in bobbin area for loose threads or lint

if none of the above work & the needle is still hitting something then it 's a great possibility it's out of time & needs to be serviced, cause the needle should not be hitting anything when it goes down.

Singer 7442 Needle seems 2b 2 long.Hits something below

I strongly recommend you desist from using the sewing machine on a levis. It could be that the capacity is not for that thick material like levis.

I had similar problem till I had to take it in for repairs because mine was discovered to have had a shift in the footer below the needle compartment where the clothes are been laid before sewing.

Look closely at the footer.

Good luck dear.

I care so much.

turn the machine slowly by hand as the needle goes down check it does not hit the foot ,then the hole of the plate.
If it enters the hole and then stops aganst something it is possible the shuttle or bobbin is not in right take them out and replace them again.if the problem prisists take the needle plate off and warch as the needle goes down what it is hitting.
if the hook or shuttle is in the way the timming could be out.
