Try this link, scroll down the page and click agree and download. Install this driver and your scanner should be working with Win 7.

Those 5 minutes are (1) WinXP trying (and failing) to locate the driver for your Canoscan flatbed scanner, or (2) WinXP perceives that your installation of the flatbed scanner driver failed, and
WinXP is performing a (5 minute long) System Restore to correct the problem.

The Fix to both problems: download (free) updated driver from www.canon.com

Yes it is compatible with windwos 7.

Click on above link wait for 3 minute then select your os win7 then wait again then download driverr and patch update for it then install in computer then you can use it.

You don't need a driver. If I plug my Canoscan LIDE 25 in, it just works (with Ubuntu 9.04). See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=414474 for further discussions about this scanner on Ubuntu.
