call your service provider (e.g. Telstra, optus, virgin, vodofone), and ask them for the code and they should be a ble to unlock it for you, they might ask you for a few details.
Have you tried the Optus sim? Virgin phones are hosted on the Optus network and it could just work. In any case, I had a Virgin C1100 that hadn't been used for at least 3 years. I rang Virgin and gave the account details & IMEI, and they provided the unlock for no charge.
