How To Use Your Mac As a Wireless Router

1) You need to configure your Mac (the one connected to your modem) to share its Internet connectivity with other wireless devices. To do this, select System Preferences from the Apple menu, and then click on Sharing.

2) In the Sharing window, click on the Internet tab to bring up Internet Sharing. Select Built-in Ethernet from the Share your connection menu. Then, select Airport in the To computers using list

3) Click on the Airport Option button to configure some wireless security options. You Only want to be sharing your wireless connection with Your Other computer. Enter a Network Name, select channel as Automatic, and enable encryption and enter a WEP password, which will be required to join your new wireless network. now click on Ok

4) Now your mac is acting a wireless router just connect to your network from other computers and enter the WEP key when it ask for it.
You found this to be an excellent solution when you don’t have a wireless router, but would like occasional wireless access in your home or small office.

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet


These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:
  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center

I hooked up my D'link to modem and computer and connection is good. But i can't find it when i search on laptop wireless connection. I think you need i driver but i can't find one. Thank You

Can't get my lap top to connect wirelessly to my router. Model # WRT54G2. The laptop says it is reaquiring the network address, but nothing happens.

How to configure D-Link Wireless Router 615 on LAN ?

you need a cat 5 or better to work fine, and if you have turned mac filter on, please check/add if needed your laptop to the network, best is to use dlink given cd, with has auto-detect devices function inside, then adjust security setting manually

help with my wireless router

you have the internet on desktop pc and you want to connect your laptop right?
open control panel select network set up wizzard and follow instructions for shared network.
if you connect dsl to notebook you need to have installed modem device drivers and configured device and done basically everything you had to do on pc,by disconnecting dsl from pc obviosly youre gonna lose the internet.
get your self a wireless router if not already have one , that way you set up pc wired and link laptop via wireless
