You can not update flash on 10.5. 10.7 or 10.8 are required. PowerPC and 10.6 And below are no longer supported.

Enter the model into google and you should be able to find a user manual. Also, the apple website is fairly thorough and should you call in they are extremely helpful with little to no wait time in my experience.

There are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot this issue:

Try a PMU Reset:
* Turn of your iMac if it is already turned off
* Disconnect all connections to the iMac except the power cord
* Now disconnect the power cord for approximately 20 seconds
* Reconnect just the power cable the keyboard, mouse and power cord, and then power your iMac G5 up.

* Check to see if the iMac boots up normally without power interruption.

* If the iMac G5 shuts off again, try these steps, another recommendation would be to remove all connections including the power cord, and lay the iMac G5 on soft cloth face down and with a philips screwdriver, remove the plate on the bottom of the iMac G5 where your RAM memory is located.
Before removing the RAM however, touch your hand on the metal boot to discharge any static current you carry for approximately 5 seconds.

Now remove each RAM card and then reseat (re-install) each card.

Restore the RAM card cover with your Philips screwdriver, reconnect your power cable, keyboard and mouse and turn on your iMac G5.

See if this second procedure helps if the first procedure does not work.

This is a common problem with Imac G5's caused by failing capacitors on the logic board and/or power supply.

It is fixable, but requires very good soldering/electronics skills. Otherwise the typical response from service people would be: needs new logic board and/or power supply.

If You want to make it yourself and You nave iSight model - be prepared to fighting with disassembling, it's not so easy and more - after assembling You can get it non-operate. Best way is a service center. But if You're sure - I can email You disassembling manual. Sincerely.

you will need an intel mac to use a xp boot disc.

or with virtual pc installed you can run windows 2000, not sure about xp though.

Get yourself a great little gadget called iMic. It's a usb connector that adapts to let you used your headset mic and the mac system os will recognize it very well. Works good .
Costs about 24 bucks or so..

Your Imac may be one of those affected by Apples purchase of inferior capacitators from Taiwan. If you are less than 3 years from the purchase date, apple will repair the problem for you for free. Just take the unit to your nearest local Apple Genius or tech. If you are outside of the repair extension guidelines, I have provided a link here which can show you or someone more skilled how to repair the problem. Ordering a new motherboard and power supply will set you back a lot of money, however the following guide and pdf give you step by step instructions on how to ressurrect your dead imac without speding more than $100.00. I was able to repair my imac using this guide and it was worth it to save a $2k computer that was only 3 1/2 years old. Check it out:

The iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues applies to first generation iMac G5 computers that have video or power-related issues as a result of a specific component failure. The program is available for certain first generation iMac G5 models that were sold between approximately September 2004 and June 2005 featuring 17- and 20-inch displays with 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz G5 processors.

The affected iMac G5 computers have serial numbers where the first 5 digits fall into the ranges noted below.

Some second generation iMac G5 computers have serial numbers that fall within the upper band of the ranges listed below. Only first generation iMac G5 computers are affected by this program.

Where do I find the serial number of my iMac G5?
The 11-digit serial number is located on a label under the foot of the iMac G5. There is a bar code underneath the serial number.
To view the label, hold the sides of the iMac and gently lay the computer face down on a soft, clean towel or cloth.

iMac G5's cannot run windows alone, but older software can be purchased like Virtual PC to run windows on that unit.
