Can't install xp - Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

  • Anonymous May 20, 2010

When XP is copying files, there are a number of files that it says it can't copy over, then after ignoring a few, I get the BSOD and the install has failed.

Are you receiving any error messages when you try to install Windows XP?
If it is not detecting your Hard Disk follow the steps below:
Go into the BIOS setup (press f10 during boot process), System configuration and disable SATA Native Support. Try installing XP again and it should see your hard drive.

How to install window XP

This procedure demonstrates how to install Windows XP Professional. The procedure to install Windows XP home edition is very similar to the professional edition. Since Windows XP Pro is more advanced operating system, it will be used to demonstrate the installation procedure.
The best way install Windows XP is to do a clean install. It is not difficult to perform a clean installation. Before you perform the installation I recommend that you check to ensure that your hardware is supported by XP. If your hardware is not on the compatibility list you can check your hardware manufactures website to download the drivers for Windows XP. Save all the necessary drivers onto floppy disks or CD before you start the installation.

Can i install windows-xp on my laptop which is currently working on windows-7 and use both of them.

Hi,
Yes you can install windows xp in windows 7.
Windows XP Mode is a virtual PC image of Windows XP Service Pack 3 that could be run on Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate versions. Applications installed into Windows XP Mode could be run in Desktop Mode or Seamless Mode. In Seamless Mode, applications appear to run natively within Windows 7, but they are actually running inside the Windows XP virtual machine. Windows XP Mode might also provide additional integration that traditional Virtual PC images might not be giving. Applications installed on the Windows XP image could be exposed to the Windows 7 Start menu. Applications run in seamless mode is having automatic access to the Windows 7 known folders like Documents, Pictures, Desktop, Music, etc. Also the Cut-and-paste is enabled between native Windows 7 applications and those running in Windows XP Mode. Applications running in Windows XP Mode might also access your Windows 7 network connection and USB devices.

Windows xp installation problem

You might need to use the "Floppy" version of the Driver upon install (if you know what the chipsets are. Most likely it's Intel and you can slip stream the driver files into a new XP CD.
However if a partition is formated from Vista and you attempt to install XP over it without formatting it, crash is almost certain - XP and Vista have different versions of NTFS.
If you want both XP and Vista on the same machine, ALWAYS install the older one first! i.e. XP first. And create only 1 partition in XP where you intend to install on.
Then install Vista afterwards with Vista created partition.

Not possible xp installation

How to Downgrade Vista to XP Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is almost like installing Windows XP for the first time. You should take all the normal precautions like backing up all your important files and record important passwords in a different place, preferably on a CD. When you downgrade from Windows Vista to XP, note that Windows Vista will be completely removed from your system.
(Note: There is a way to have both Vista and XP in a dual boot configuration, but that's an option for more advanced users. See Dual Booting Vista and XP for more info on that.)
Before you begin the XP installation, make sure that the necessary XP hardware drivers are available, or included on the XP disk provided by your PC vendor. If in doubt, check the vendor's website or poke around with your favorite search engine to see if others have attempted the XP install on the same hardware. You may be able to install XP without all the needed drivers, but some hardware may not work afterwards.
Also, make sure that you have a genuine Windows XP CD before you begin the downgrade. Be sure to read the section earlier in this article to see if you qualify for a low/no cost XP recovery disk from your PC vendor. If not, perhaps you have an XP disc that came with another computer. If you've upgraded an existing computer from XP to Vista, the best choice would be the XP install/recovery disc that came with that computer. One some PC's the vendor doesn't ship a CD, but the recovery CD can be created from disk images on the hard drive. If all else fails, you can always buy a copy of Windows XP on Ebay. Just be sure it's a legal, licensed copy.
Follow these steps to install Windows XP on your Vista machine:
  • Insert your Windows XP install/recovery CD and restart your computer.
  • Install Windows XP normally, providing either the product key that came with the disk, or the one you got from Microsoft customer support. If the installer warns you that another copy of Windows is already installed, don't worry. Remember, this install will wipe out your existing Vista installation.
  • Activate your copy of Windows XP when it prompts you to do so. If you run into the "already activated" problem, you can use the option to activate by phone.
  • If you own Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, explain to the rep that you want to use your Downgrade Rights to install XP Pro.
  • If you own Vista Home Basic/Premium, or you are installing XP Home Edition, don't mention ANYTHING about Vista. Just give the rep your XP product key (not the Vista key), explain that you are installing XP on a new hard drive, and tell them you need to activate.
