Cpu fan noisy /chip fan fail

Hello,
it all started with my cpu fan giving out an awful noise.then i started getting error messages "cpu fan fail or speed low" inspite of the fan running. i researched abt the problem and found out tht i may have to " clean or oil" the fan.checking the cpu temp was another thing recommended . cleaning the fan proved useless.also, the noise was intermittent and a tap on the side of the cabinet silenced it sometimes. to get a better picture i downloaded asus-probe and found out tht the cpu temp was well within the desired range( 42 c max).i lowered the fan speed in the bios from 1200 to 800 rpm. the error messsages continued for some time. all of a sudden i get error messages "chip fan fail" .i checked that the chip fan isn't running. but it does after i reboot it after a short time. now the frequency of the chip fan failing has increased and also it doesn't start always at reboot. the entire process of chip fan failing and starting is intermittent. the temp ,voltages, fan speed is well within the normal range as per the asus probe. is the problem with cpu fan/ chip fan/ smps(power supply) or plain loose connection somewhere. plz lemme know if anyone figures it out.ty

You must buy a new CPU Fan. You can get them HERE or a zillion other places on the Internet. You need a Socket 939 type fan that will handle your cpu speed. If you need help installing it, it may be in the manual. You can read the manual by clicking on the picture of your MB at the top of this post and then scrolling down.

Hope that fixed ya...

Eee box atom n270 noise

Most noises in desktop computers are usually caused by a dirty or failing fan.
They usually have at least 2 fans, often more.
The power supply fan is the most likely culprit, they fail often.
That will be the fan at the back where the power cable plugs in.
The second most likely fan is the video card fan, if it has one.
After that, any other case fan could be suspect.
Least likely, it could be the CPU fan, but these rarely fail, especially if its for an intel CPU.
Other than fans, a CD/DVD in the optical drive can sometimes be noisy.
Lastly, the noise could be the hard disk - if it is, back up your data immediately - it could be on the way out.
Most likely a fan though.
Could be worth blowing out the chassis with an air compressor gently - not too much pressure, then leave the system for 24hrs just in case there was any moisture in the lines, then retest it. If the fan in question is still noisy, you'll need to replace it.
If its the power supply fan, you'll need to replace the entire power suppy.
Hope this helps

Kia sedona engine noisy when cold

Check to see if your fan belt is making that noise. When they get old, sometimes the rubber gets hard, and they make an awful racket.

Hello there! Noisy Sounds can be much frightening, but if you could determine from where the sound is coming on you will get the solution, the sound makers inside a pc are mostly fans, and what type of sound you are actually hearing, rattling sounds means some wires touching up the C.P.U Cooler fan, another one could be a loose fan on the SMPS. Solution to this is to Check all the Fans Do so by
1. Remove the Cabinet cover on one side and Start the machine and try to see and determine what actually is making the noise, rattling sound could be a wire or something touching the fan, if its okay, then listen for the SMPS fan.
Hope this Helps.

When i boot up the laptop i get a message 'Main Fan Error' the fan runs on start up then stops just before i get the error message. Fan will not restart... Joseph

Hi,

This message means that the fan on your CPU (processor) is failing or has failed. This is not good because if the fan on the CPU fails your CPU will overheat and cause your machine to lock up and become non-functional till it cools down and then the same cycle will repeat till the fan is replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My sony vaio VGN-CS11S is soo noisy

The fan's bearings are probably going bad, or there may be some object that was sucked in to cause the noise.

Cpu fan noisy/chip fan fail error messages

pils,

Yes. This sounds like a fan issue. The noise often comes from bearings failing within the fan. Also, a failing bearing can make things harder on the motor as it brings the fan up to speed. This is likely the reason that you see increased warnings during the fan speed check while booting because it comes to speed more slowly as bearing wear increases.

I give this a 90% chance that your CPU fan is causing the issue. Since a decent CPU fan will cost you ~$20 online, it's not much out of your pocket if you happen to uncover another culprit.

I'll keep an eye on this post. Let me know how things go.
