I have a Tk-3101 and Autocom Active-Rider system on a 2002 Kawasaki EX250. TheTK-3101 is battery powered. I pick up alternator whine no matter where I locate the radio. I was trying several experiments and found that if I remove the antenna from the TK-3101, it no longer picks up interference. Of course, I was unable to test the receive/transmit range after doing so.
Is there a way to modify the "whip" antenna to rresist or be sheilded from the bikes electrical interferences? The Autocom unit operates cleanly on its own, so I know it's the TK-3101 picking up the noise.
It would be nice to use the bike electrical system for power and not worry about battery juice. The TK 3101 is PC programmable so you could try and put in PL Tones.
They are like a way to filter radio signals out but that is different from the whine you are probably getting over the wiring.
After a lot of experimenting, I decided to try powering the Autocom with a 9v battery and that fixed the issue. Evidently, the power from the bike was dirty - I'll have to filter the power line, find a different place to tap into or remain battery powered.
