My macbook screen is darker than it should be. I've pressed F2 to the brightest setting and it's still black. I can still see if I really look close. Do I have to get the backlight replaced?

You backlight needs to be replaced. In fact it could be caused by your inverter as well. Try the inverter first, it's cheap and easy to replace. If you want to do it yourself, the good news is, it's not too hard to open it. Here is a Macbook Repair Guide that shows how to open an Macbook. Just open it and let it try, clean off any corrosion you can find. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to iPad Repair NYC.

Macbook stuck on load up screen

When you say "load up screen", I assume you mean the Apple boot screen (it has the apple on a gray background).

You might try resetting the PRAM on the macbook.
You can do this by pressing and holding the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

So, turn the macbook completely off. Turn it on and immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys until the computer reboots and chimes. Once it chimes, release the keys. Your system should boot normally.

Have a macbook pro and it has locked up, black screen now and isn't responding to mouse or keyboard

This has also happened to my Macbook Pro - nothing would work, so i basically pressed the power button until it closed down and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. The problem ( touch wood) did not come back again yet. Good luck!

You probably need an OS-Reinstall. Take it to the apple store and see if they'll do it for you. If they don't there are third party Macbook Repair services that can fix it for you. There are also free Macbook Repair guide that show you how to restore it yourself. You should still have your install CDs to do the restore.
