Set the screen format using your TV's menu. Do not set the format of the screen using your provider's receiver. I had this prob with a few channels with a dish provider when I set the format with the remote from the dish provider. I picked up the TV's remote, went into the menu, set the format, problem fixed.

Why does my onn 50 inches tv screen flickers?

Because it is Walmart's bargain basement brand own line, made in China at the very cheapest price point. Depending on age, claim on warranty, have it repaired or give it away to Goodwill. If you got 3 years out of it, you are lucky.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Monitor flickers with lines across screen

screen is going bad which is why its flickering and has the lines across the screen. Theres a board behind the lcd and when that doesn't process the voltage properly it can cause the screen to flicker. White lines across the screen means the screen is going bad. At this point unless your monitor is under warranty, go ahead and replace it.

1/2'' wide white horizontal line across tv about 2'' from top is on all the time and doesn't flicker at all. NEC 27" Standard TV

Does this happen when you are playing a video tape or just regular TV? It should not happen with DVDs. All I can say is the picture tube may be going bad, have the TV checked by a professional. Good luck to you!

Hi I had the same problem. Broken white lines across the top of the screen. This is called overscan. You need to go into the Setup menu, other settings. 16:9 overscan needs to be on. Hope this helps. It solved our problem.

Picture issues

Greetings caesar975,

Unfortunately if you chose to view the non HD channels in wide screen format, you are going to have the top and bottom of the screen cut off. Eventually this will not be a problem when everything goes to digital. However presently non HD channels are presented in 3:2 ratio where as HD is 16:9, So your choice really is to view them with the lines on either side for now.

I do not have an answer for the white flickering lines.

To get the BEST picture out of your 1080p unit I highly recommend using HDMI cables to hook it up.

I hope some of this helps.

Sincerely,

Dorothy
