I have an overhead G.E. Spacemeker XL 1800 that is 7 years old and yesterday stopped working. Here's the problem- Anytime a function os any type is attempted it immediatelyt lets out a LOUD buzzing noise.... The display panel and interior light both still work, but when you open the door - BUZZ! When you try to run it- BUZZ! When you push the buttons BUZZ, BUZZ BUZZ.... What is wrong?

    I have the same problem.

The buzzng sound is coming from ac voltage getting to the coil

of the 24 volt dc relays, but I can't determine why?

    Any help would be appreciated.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

And are you able to estimate where the buzzing is coming from?

The control panel or deeper back, maybe?

My microwave was totally dead. Things I discovered: 1) There is an easily replacable fuse accessed by taking off the top front vent cover (two screws on top, gently massage off) and then the inside plastic grill. UNPLUG before doing this! 2) Pop off two wires on either end of fuse holder for safety. Then pop out fuse and replace. For more extensive help, there is an evelope with a wiring diagram inside the case on the inside wall! Very helpful when diagnosing the surface lamp problem (I forgot to plug the ballast back in when I closed up the bottom).

GE Profile Space, aker 1800 microwave is making

You should keep it unplugged until it's fixed. If it's cooking while it should be off, that can damage the oven or even start a fire.

It's either a failed door switch or door switch mount, or a bad electrolytic capacitor on the control board, which we can repair for $39.95.

If you're hearing a fan or motor running, I'd suspect the switch. See this file for help.

If it's a buzz (like a power line buzz) then I'd suspect the board capacitor.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please include your full model number from the tag in or on the unit) for more help.

Reset clock, ge spacemaker xl1800 times out after 2-3 seconds

There's a simple fix for this. Unplug the unit. Take off the top grill with 2 screws. Remove the 1 screw that holds the touch pad unit. Lift up on touchpad unit and lift out. Put a piece of aluminum foil inside a large zip lock bag and tape it to the back of the touchpad unit and reassemble. GE put the magnetron to close to the control board causing stray microwaves to interfere with the board. The foil shields it.
