The problem could be very well a relay that has the contacts pitted or weak causing the lighting in display and the interior lights to flicker. If the hum sound is coming from the bottom panel then it is the moto that has gone bad and needs replacement. However, if you hear the sound from the control then it can be due to a bad relay in the control and it is recommended to replace the control completely. Sounds like the electronic control in the rear compartment by compressor may be bad . There is a light in the crisper as well I believe and that one and the main light are controlled by the control in back.

Sounds like a refrigerant leak or blockage to me....i think you need an engineer!!!

can you hear a humming sound coming from the back of the refrigerator, if so that means your compressor is running, if you are hearing a buzz or clicking sound your compressor is trying to start, you may need a compressor. Some whirlpools have a 5 year sealed system warranty that would cover the repair.

It sounds like the bulb is not making good contact with the socket. Try this.

- Unplug the refrigerator.

- Take a blow dryer and heat up the socket where the bulb screws in. Do this for about 1 minute only, be careful not to over heat the plastic side walls so direct the heat on the socket to make sure nothing else gets too warm.

- Retighten the bulb into the socket, this warming will allow the bulb to seat better and tighten up more.

- You can use this same technique when you need to remove a bulb, a warmer socket will let the bulb come out and go in easier.

It sounds like the control panel is toast (burnt out) as we say.

I had the same problem. The light would dimly flicker and make a sort of clicking noise. It was still under warranty and the repair man had to replace a circuit board in the back. Not sure of what the cost would be if not under warranty. Hope this helps.

Had the identical symptoms with my Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNB00 side-by-side refrigerator. Had a technician come on site, indicated it was the "circuit board/ timer" (Whirlpool part # 1394052). Board is accessible from behind fridge (lower left side in a white plastic housing to left of compressor).

Swapped the board out (noticed a scorched circuit on the old circuit board). Lightbulbs now work, temperature readouts also good to go.

 if posible try turning off over night, if its ok when you start it back up after 24hours, defrost not happening, ice builds up air flow is restricted
