Why won't my dyson dc14 animal to turn on

I have received many dysons for repairs citing the same fault. 99% have the motors 'open circuited'. Simply put, this means that the motor windings have broken and the circuit no longer has continuity and therefore will not work. The motors do not give any indication and do not smell, they simply faulter. Without testing your unit I cannot say for sure, but, that would be my guess. Sorry, Cheers.

HOW TO TEST A DYSON MOTOR.

A DC-7 has a Panasonic motor which is the best part of it. I have never seen one of those fail within the life expectancy. You do have to consider that a Dyson was never designed to last more than 5 years. The newer Dysons are only designed to last 2 years. If the motor runs for 15 minutes and overheats, my first guess would be a faulty heat sensor on the motor. If it ran only 30 seconds or so, probably a bad motor.

My Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright does not click to stay in an upright position. It works but the handle falls to the floor.

This is a common fault with the Dyson DC07 (and other Dysons) unfortunately the clip that holds the handle upright hs broken. It can be repaired, but will cost a reasonable amount to have done... I would just live with the problem and prop the vacuum cleaner against a wall when not in use.

My Dyson DC-17 Absolute Animal does not stay running after I push start button. It will only run if I hold the start button down all the time.

switches always fail on the dysons. its a pretty simple fix though. let me know if you need parts and/or instructions on repairing it.

Dysons animal overheats and turns off What do we

The electric motor inside your Dyson has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, next time it is switched on it just trips again.

The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.

Replacement motors are available on eBay2_bing.gif for about £25, however replacing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.

The vacuum suction still works but the brush wont turn. It still looks like the belt is intact and attached properly.

The problem with Dysons is that the belt breaks and sits in position.
If you can turn the brush by hand, with little or no resistance then I would say the belts broken.
If in doubt take the cover off and look.

While using my Dyson a rug got caught and that ratcheting sound started. I removed all signs of strings, etc until the brushes rotated fine but when I started the Dyson the ratcheting started again. I have...

The rattly sound means the drive belt has snapped or the protective clutch has slipped. This needs repair by someone who knows how to repair Dysons officially. Sadly its the kind of model that can't be done by the owner.

Dyson DC14 Animal belt clutch slips.

The clutch problem needs to be looked at by a serviceman or professional who can repair Dysons. Slipping belts are often a sign of being overused or with carpet/textures that have caused the beater bar extra tension. I suggest if this model means much to you to get it repaired.
