Jenn air self cleaning oven burns out control panel

This is my second jenn air range that the self cleaning cycle seems to burn out... blow out.... the control for the oven. the burners still work, but a fan is on constantly as if it is cooling down the oven. The oven will not come on... flips off to a buzzer sound then I try to turn it on. So I have just turned off the circuit breaker to the range.

Any ideas if this is a glitch in the jenn air self cleaning cycle and if there might be a company policy to make it good. I couldn't get any help from them on line or by phone, but wonder if this might just happen to enough other people that they might stand behind the repair costs.

And, if this has happened to you, is it an expensive repair, or something as simple as a "reset" adjustment. My first one could not be repaired, as it blew the whole stove when I used the self cleaner. Thank you.

ja_question.gif Why are the oven indicator lights flashing? Answer: When power is first supplied to the appliance, a flashing time will appear on the display.
If a flashing time appears at any other time, a power failure has occurred. Press Cancel, and reset the clock if needed.
When the oven is not in use, the display shows the time of day.
If the indicator lights keep flashing after you have tried to reset the controls, then you may need to contact service person.

This is from the Jenn-Air website.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air electric range

my jen-Air has a problem with it continuing to beep. Ive tried to get it to stop by pushing all the buttons. When I pust the off/cancel button it just keeps beeping. Tried the stop timer button and same thing. When I turn on either the bake or convection bake button it automatically just shuts off by itself. It is approx 10-13 years old. HELP, or please tell me to get a new one.

SOURCE: I have a Jenn-air electric

The answer your provided by email only confirmed what I suspected -- that the vent system was probably overheating and would cut out at a certain point.
Thank you for fast reply. I may have to get a pro to confirm this, as I'm an old lady with NO skills for taking stove apart and installing new vent motor.

GE PS950SF1SS, self clean no longer works for either oven. After starting self clean door will lock but the self clean cycle shuts off after 30 seconds, same for either oven

The self clean function is a way for the makers to get revenue from broken parts and lulling you into thinking you get a clean oven. The typical things to break are elements, fans, door locks and control boards. Your either has a broken lock and isn't passing the self check, or the control board has failed. The temperature is just too harsh. If the oven works, get a can of Easy Off. If you want to use the feature, you will need to get a service

I don't know how to use the self cleaning. When I press the clean button the word lock appears and it looks like I need to do something else but I don't know what?

If the word lock appears then leave the oven alone. What the self cleaning cycle does is super heat the interior of the oven to actually burn to a crisp all debris. Once the oven has completed its cleaning and has cooled down the lock will release and you can unse a damp cloth to clean out the oven debris. This self cleaning cycle may take up to two to three hour to complete and cool down but once it has finished the door lock will release.
Hope this helped you

Jenn-Air JDS8850BDS control panel malfunction

You need a new control board. I bought similar range in 2004 and I just got my 3rd control board. Heating the oven over 400 degrees and using the self-clean function kills the board.

I need direction on how to start the clean cycle on my jenn air

CLEAN PAD
Use to set a self-clean cycle or a delayed
self-clean cycle. One press of the Clean
pad sets up an immediate clean cycle. A
second press of the Clean pad sets up a
delayed clean cycle.
• Clean oven
frame, door
frame (area
outside of gasket)
and
around the
opening in the door gasket with a nonabrasive
cleaner such as Bon Ami*. These
areas are not exposed to cleaning temperatures.
• Remove air grille.
• Remove oven racks. If racks are left in
during a clean cycle, it may impair function
and they will discolor. Turn off the
oven light and close door.
* Brand names for cleaning products are
registered trademarks of the respective
manufacturers.
TO SET FOR IMMEDIATE START:
1. Press Clean pad once.
2. Press the Auto Set pad for 3 hours of
cleaning time, press again for 4 hours
and again if 2 hours of clean time are
desired.
3. CLEANING and LOC plus the clean
time will appear in the display.
4. When the clean cycle is complete,
CLEANED will be displayed. LOC will
remain on until the oven has cooled
(approx. 1 hour).
5. When the oven is cool, LOC will no
longer be displayed and the door may be
opened.
6. Wipe out the oven interior with a damp
cloth. If soil remains it indicates the
cycle was not long enough.

TO CANCEL SELF-CLEAN:
1. Press Cancel pad.
2. If LOC is NOT displayed, open oven
door. If LOC is displayed, allow oven to
cool.

Thanks for using Fix Ya, Please take the time to rate this solution.

My rf367 range gets so hot during the self cleaning cycle that the top of the range is to hot to touch and the fan on my otr microwave comes on.

Normal operation. If in doubt place a high temp theromoter on range top to see if it exceeds 600-900 degrees
The basic idea is "burn baby, burn!" Self-cleaning ovens use an approximately 900 degrees Fahrenheit (482 degrees Celsius) temperature cycle to burn off spills leftover from baking, without the use of any chemicals. A self-cleaning oven is designed with a mechanical interlock (patented in 1982) to keep the oven door locked and closed during and soon after the high-temperature cleaning cycle, which can be approximately three hours. The door stays locked to prevent burn injuries. You can open the oven door after the oven cools to approximately 600 F (315 C).

Jenn air 88370

I have a similar Jenn Air oven approximate date 1982. It has a catalytic liner (colored a kind of dark charcoal  with paler flecks), so it is a continuous clean oven during normal cooking.  However, it also has the Accel Clean setting on the control knob. This increases the oven temperature to maximum and also runs the convection fan to burn off cooking residues. This allows the catalytic lining work at high efficiency, and burn off stubborn residues that are not removed at normal cooking temperature. The oven may emit smoke through the top door vents as the food residues burn off, so watch that you do not set off your smoke detector. I switch on the cooker hood fan and also put a fan in the kitchen window (blowing air out of the kitchen), to avoid setting off my kitchen smoke detector if I use Accel Clean.
