Bought cam from a friend who got it from his dad. New batteries but shutter won't work. I can **** it by opening the back then closing it again. Shutter cocks but it won't open or close even with film loaded.
Try setting the shutter to B and see if you can trip the shutter. If no go then it has mechanical problem. If it works on B but not on other shutter speeds, you have electronic problems.

Hi , check everything set c amera speed to 60/seconds auto or manual / check also the the camera shutter blade , open the lense and close to activate the shutter blade .
if yes, this is common to most cameras idled for years. the shutter curtain or leaves stuck, or the electronic unit that powers the shutter mulfunction.
eBay sellers are not always honest. return it if you are lucky or file a complaint. let me tell you about my experience there. i bought a used Yashica, but when it arrived, some parts went wrong enenthough i specifically asked, the condition was not as stated, and lens cap seen on pic was not included. the seller was a kind of rude manner, he just refused to admit though eBay suspended him from trading.
If your friend dropped it the in they are a good frien thay will ofer to replace it. Any repair even if one were possible and oftern they are not will be costly. So a Good friend will go buy you the replacement
Format the card. I have same problem with mine ---requires a new shutter assembly.$40.00 item and they want $300.00 to fix it at Henry`s cameras. Ouch .Better to buy a new camera.
the flash circuit of the camera is short. the moment you switch on the flash it drops the supply voltages of the battery. you have to show it to a repairer.
