We just bought a Tomtom One XL and it does not tell us the names of major streets, when turning unto one. It just directs to "turn right" but unto no street name . Can this be corrected or can I upgrade the GPS without returning it
It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
Yes, "computer voice female" needed to be selected, now GPS speaks street names
The Tom Tom One XL does NOT have Text-to-Speech capablity, meaning it CANNOT speak out street names. There is no "correction" or upgrade that will change this. The unit was not designed to do so. The Tom Tom Go 720 and 920 are current Tom Tom units with the ability to speak out street names.

I just purchased a Tomtom XL 330 S with text to speech. It does not speak the names of streets as it states that the S model is suppose to. The features to do so on the unit are listed but not highlighted to place a check mark so as to enable the feature.
I have just purchased a TomTom XL two days ago and on the box it states that it has 'spoken street names' capability. I did not set up the unit, but it has not been enabled. How can I do it after setup has been sompleted?
Cheers
Jo
Only computer voices will say street names. Change it in voice preferences.
