No matter what DVD i put in, it always says that it can't be played! I have tried different discs, cleaned it, what now?!

  • Anonymous Sep 25, 2008

It says "THIS TYPE OF DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED. PLEASE INSERT A DIFFERENT DISC" I've tried different DVDs but none of them play. I tried putting in a CD and it works fine but not a single DVD will work.

You can try some other player programs on your computer. Here are some of the free DVD player recommendations for your reference:
Leawo Blu-ray Player

This player is a free 4K and Blu-ray player which can support most video and audio formats. It is recommended as the best free DVD playing software also since it is a free Blu-ray player to playback all Blu-ray discs (regardless of disc protection and region codes), a free HD media player to play up to 1080p and 4K videos, a music player to tune in favorite music.

Wow ! In the words of Dr. Gregory House, " You're a moron" , but on a lighter note, you need to replace the optical pickup . This unit is garbage by any other name.

Every disk that I try to watch on movies shows no disc error message it won't play the movies but it does play musical CDs

There are several possible reasons why your DVD player is not playing movies, but is playing CDs. Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the issue:
  1. Clean the disc: Sometimes, a dirty or scratched disc can cause the "no disc" error message. Try cleaning the disc with a soft, lint-free cloth, wiping from the center outwards. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  2. Clean the DVD player: A dirty lens or other components in the DVD player can also cause problems with reading discs. Try using a DVD lens cleaning kit to clean the lens, or open up the DVD player and carefully clean any visible dust or debris.
  3. Check the disc format: Make sure that the movies you are trying to play are in a format that is compatible with your DVD player. Some players may not support certain file types, such as Blu-ray discs or region-specific DVDs.
  4. Check the connections: Make sure that all cables and connections are securely plugged in and functioning properly. Try using a different cable or port if possible.
  5. Reset the DVD player: Some DVD players have a reset button or option in the settings menu. Try resetting the player to its default settings and see if that resolves the issue.
If none of these steps work, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with your DVD player, such as a malfunctioning laser or drive motor. In that case, it may be necessary to take the player to a repair shop or consider purchasing a new one.

Wont play dvd's.

If this happens when you insert a DVD disc then most likely the laser assembly is failing in the DVD drive. In most cases it will probably still play CD's. The part number needed is LSVQ0087 and isn't cheap as seen on the following ebay posting. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks.

Dvd player wont play

Make sure that the DVD Disc is of the format that your DVD recorder can read. For example, if your recorder specifically requires a DVD -R type disk, it will puke on a DVD +R disk.

Displays "No Disc"

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)
Good Luck
