Cable signals today are encrypted so that it is not possible to directly connect the cable to the set and get the cable channels. You must use the cable box. Some sets have what is known as a "cablecard" slot that can be used with a card from the cable company in lieu of a cable box. Only then can you use the TV tuner for cable channels.
If no signal via the cable fitting try hooking set via one of the sets of jacks on the back (audio/video or component) to see if coax input or tuner is bad.
If the set works with a DVD etc hooked to one of those inputs and your cable is good--maybe a bad tuner in the set---also if using a box try hooking cable direct to set to rule out the box.
Hello You haven't stated the type of signals that comes with your co-axial cable; analogue or digital. Anyway, you have to retune the TV after connecting it properly with Cox-Cable receiver with TV.
The cable box needs to be set to send different signals when using hd tv and standard tv. Usually a good setting would be 720p in hd and 480p in standard. The tv is working fine it is the cable box sending the signal. If you have another hdmi source such as a dvd player you may hook that up to show the tv is working just fine.
I've done a little research and I don.t see where you have a ATSC tuner that receives the over the air digital signal. You have a basic Analog tuner. The only way you can receive digital is by a HD cable box by having cable or going to Satellite.
your t.v will hook up directly to cable. if you are asking how to hook to a digital box then you can hook it up the same as you had it hooked on your previous t.v. but if you want to get high def channels then you are going to have to take your digital box back to Time Warner and swap it for a high def digital box. or you can just call Time Warner and have a technician go to your house and swap/ hook things up for you. When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.
