Updating the firmware will not fix a corrupted map or system files or even a corrupted directory. The units flash drive needs to be accessed using a service firmware and then remove the corrupted file (map, gpx, etc.) which is preventing the unit from booting. Sometimes the flash drive needs to be formatted and the data put back on the drive. More info can be found here:
