I have a Goldstar electronic dehumidifier bought on 5-10-09, so of course it is out of warranty. Used very little. It will start to run, but then the fan overheats and it shuts off after approximately 10 minutes. The top is very hot.

Sounds like this unit developed a freon leak and that will make it run hot like that...cheaper to replace it then to repair...
There are many reasons for a dehumidifier to not work or collect water.
