Trying to remove the filter screen to see if something is blocking

What type of tool will remove the filter screen in the bottom of my dishwasher. I tried an allen wrench and and a phillips head those would not work. Is there a different type of wrench used to remove those screws?

Thank you, that was the right type of allen wrench.

Try a Torx screw driver. It looks like an Allen but it is a star shape head.

Why doesn't it drain?

You can definately take the bottom apart and clean out the filter. Very likely some larger items are blocking the screen. Look up your model on youtube there are some good videos on how to do this. Another thing to try is pouring a bunch of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher and running it empty. Once you have removed the main blockage in the drain trap you can also pour some CLR in there and run it to clear out the sprayer system too.

My bosch dishwasher does not drain the water away, left sitiing in bottom

Hi,

It could either be the filter (most likely), the drain pump (likely) or the drain hose/tube (least likely).

Normally, there would a filter somewhere at the bottom of your washing machine with the primary function of keeping loose clothing, torn fabric, lint, fluff and foreign objects away from the impeller/pump. Most current washing machine have self-cleaning filters and therefore regular cleaning is no longer a concern. However, some other washing machine need to have the filter manually removed and cleaned regularly or as even in your case. If the filter or grate is clogged or blocked with debris, it may interfere with the normal functioning of your washing machine and may cause the problem as you have described; water doesn't leave the tub.

To check the filter and/or the drain pump, the bottom has to be exposed, the filter/pump located and cleaned. In some instances, the drain could be a valve operated by a solenoid.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Dishwasher won't drain. Whirlpool quiet wash plus. I found the filter and removed the screws, but filter/screen is on tight, I don't want to break it and i am not sure where to remove from.

I can't solve removing the filter, if you have removed all the correct bits it prb just needs a stiff pull however I think the problem is more likely to be a blockage in the outlet pipe or the pump. If you can hear the pump trying to drain get a long piece of stiff wire (coathanger) and push down outlet pipe (the one connected to the dishwasher) to check if it's blocked. Also make sure the trap in the waste pipe isnt blocked. I hope that helps regards

My dishwasher is not working

sounds like your drain pump may be blocked.
check to see if waste drainpipe is blocked,
if not try and see if your can get machine to drain into a bucket.
if not drain pump may have something blocking it internally if machine has a filter clean it out, if no filter remove drain pump a clean it out or replace if faulty.

Dishwasher doesn't seem to be cleaning. Detergent cup opens, but detergent oozes down the inside of the door. Dishwasher is Frigidaire FDB956RBC

More then likely your water is not circulating properly.
Can be a tricky fix, Usually involves turning the unit upside down and replacing the impeller.
Could also be something blocking the jets (Little holes in the Water arms) Poke them with a small toothpick or something small to make sure the water is flowing good threw them.
Most of my experiences it has been the impeller wheel that usually goes bad.

Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Will not drain.

Elimination Of Problems From Most To Least Likely:

I know you said the drain's not blocked, but i feel obligated to mention it anyways ;)

1. Connection from discharge hose to drain pipe is blocked/corroded.
a) Loosen the gear clamp (5/16" Nut Driver/Phillips/Standard) holding the discharge hose to the barbed drain fitting.
b) Check that the barbed fitting is not blocked by poking at the opening wth a screwdriver.
c) If the barbed connection is Galvanzied and it has gotten heavily corroded, replacement of that fitting is recommended.

2. Discharge hose is blocked/kinked from dishwasher to drain connection.
a) After 1b), place discharge end of hose into a bucket and run the dishwasher through a cycle.
b) If flow is poor, examine hose for kinking or parts (such as couplings) that may have corroded shut. Removing front panel and using a flashlight will be required for this (1/4" nut driver/phillips) If such corrosion found, 1c).
c) If hose and fittings are ok, there may be an inline filter whose screen is clogged or a filter screen where the dishwasher ties into it's discharge line.
3. Pump has failed internally . Usually held in place by large squeeze clamps, screws, gear clamps. Will most likely removal of dishwasher from alcove to repair. Any reputable dealer should stock parts. i.e. Kenmore => Sears
N.B. May be under warranty - check. May be cheaper just to get another dishwasher at this point, especially if the dishwasher is more than 10 years old.

Asko D3120 I have resolved the problem of pum always running by tilting the dishwasher but now I have a new problem of the pump not draining the water in the bottom of the dishwasher. I thought it was...

In the bottom where the filter are, you can see a yellow 'thing'. Remove this and stick one finger in an try to rotate the pump wing. Try to remove particals that is blocking the pump.
Or there is something in the drain hose. Try to drain the machine by holding the drain hose over bucket. If it drain here, then the problem is under the sink.

Dishes not getting clean, left with gritty residue. Could the filter be backed; if so how do I fix it?

Had the same problem with a GE Nautilus 3400 series.
Solution:

- In their manual, GE recommends not stacking tall dishes on the bottom right tray - this prevents the dishwashing powder from fully dissolving. Are you using the right detergent and rinse-agent ?

If your upper arm is not turning during wash (DW leaves residue on top-shelf items), do the following:

1) Empty the DW.

2) Pull down the rotating arm on the DW ceiling. Thoroughly clean the passageways (I had to tap it on the counter to break-down the sediments).

3) Inspect the mesh-screen filter located on the floor in the back - if it's backed up (ours was backed-up from the inside), you'll need to clean it by removing 4, 1/4" screws holding it to the DW floor and throughly cleaning it (I also unscrewed the plastic valve located on the bottom of the filter compartment). While you're at it, remove the plastic mesh on the DW floor (2 screws) and fish for any objects and sediments blocking the pump.

4) Replace filter and bottom mesh and operate the DW in "Rinse" mode.

5) Press the rotating arm back in and operate the DW in "Rinse" mode. Check rotation.

- Good Luck !

Water will not drain.

This problem is often due to a blockage in the impeller blades which are located under the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher. Remove the filter and you should be able to get to the impeller by undoing a couple of torx screws. If the impeller has been blocked (this could be by something as small as a grain of uncooked rice), remove the obstruction so the impeller turns freely.
