My DHCP is not assigning a dynamic address to one of my seven wired devices. I've had to switch over to a stati

On the second router just plug a port cable in from your main routers port into the wan port and then be sure to change the second routers gateway and IP address to a different number. Say that your main router IP is 198.18.1.1 and for your second router IP you could use 10.10.10.1 or what ever combo you want and then you should be able to use both routers together. Is this what you are trying to do?
Linksys routers as well as all routers with DHCP enabled should be able to handle up to 255 separate IP address's for a LAN network. Is the firmware of the Linksys the latest? If not, down load the latest firmware and flash the router to update it. Or, check out third party firmwares like Tomato to flash that tired Linksys and turn it into a real router.

LinkSys router early deaths

Your cable modem has a ip address of 192.168.1.1 and your router probably has the same ip address. Hook your computer up to the router and change the ip address to 192.168.9.1. On your router change the router mode to static ip address mode. Then you will need to know your username and password from you cable company, and the Domain Number. Then connect the cable back to the wan port from the modem and the other end to the wan port of the router. Connect the computer to the first lan port on the router and type 192.168.9.1 go to the status page and tell it to connect.

Your cable company is giving you one ip addres and have to pay for another for more than one computer. What are you doing is using the router to receive the first ip address and distrubting out to the other computers.

Cannot share my cable modem connection

You need to connect a router to the cable modem.  The router then gets an IP address from Comcast and provides a gateway between the computers connected to the router.
The modem expects to communicate with a single Ethernet device, and provides an IP address to the first device that provides a piece of data called a MAC address.  By placing a router in-between, the router gets the IP address that lets you communicate on the Internet.  It provides local IP addresses to the equipment connected to the local Ethernet and "routes" those to the Internet.  You can either hook your two devices into the router if it has enough ports, or hook you switch to the router and hook your PC and PS3 into the switch.

Any network device, PC or otherwise, needs an IP address assigned. So, yes, both your PC's need an IP address.
Assuming your ISP lets you have multiple PC's(IP's) then you'll have to use the IP space provided by your ISP. The default gateway would also be provided by your ISP.

The way you SHOULD do this is to use a router, linksys for example. This way you can setup you private network(I.E. 192.168.10.10 for example). This will hide and protect YOUR private space from would be hackers. The router would use the REAL IP address on the outbound side to talk to the cable/DSL modem.

btw...you can use the ipconfig command at the command prompt(I.E. a DOS window) on your working machine to see the DHCP address and gateway that was assigned. Sound like your ISP only allows you one IP. The router solution above will fix that and let you connect as many as you want because the ISP will only see the one IP from the router.
