Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My camera says the my memory card is locked.?? i dont no how to unlock it My Ixus 70 says my card is locked, but the card is NOT locked (button on the side of the card is in unlock position). The came

Oops. The little latch on the side in the unlock position, should engage a switch in the camera, indicating the memory card is not writ protected. It is not an electrical switch doing something in the memory card. But is the switch in the camera is defect, you get the same result. If someone once tried to press in a memory card, the wrong way around, this could have been the cause of a damaged switch. Just check the memory card slot, of nothing is in the cardholder, blocking the little switch from working correct. Sure the switch is in the up position, like in the picture? 25288825-qj532vtjsqner5bmetfl14fj-5-0.png

Get it off "protected card" mode?

If the card is a Secure Digital (SD), SDHC or SDXC there is a write protect switch on the card which can be slid up and down. Up means it can be written too, down means the card cannot be written too. If the card is in the position where you can write to it but the camera is saying the card is still protected it maybe a faulty card or the camera may have a fault.

Camera is locked up. screen says it has a 'protected card'

there's a write protect tab on the card. if this is in protect them you can't write to it [save photos]Also, if the tab is in the right position, the sensor in the camera is either blocked [optical] or damaged [electro-mechanical]If it's blocked, use 'dust off' canned air to blow out the card slot.If it's a switch, it'll have to go in the shop.
Hope this helps.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W370 says reinsert memory card. We have reinsert the card correctly but it continues to say that. Is the camera beyond repair?

you'll make sure that you camera is not the problem is when you insert other memory card that is working on other cameras. if that doesn't work at all try to look for any foreign object that block memory card insertion contacts or you can buy a contact cleaner spray for electronic parts and spray it on the memory card holder part of the camera.

Memory card was blocked

if it says that the card it is blocked it does not need formating but see that it has a button at the side that will unlock it ..or if yo want to format it after unlocking ..insert in a device and choose format from the menu
or in a computer in a card reader..right click on the removable device ..and format ..

D-380 smartmedia card formatting

There is something alled the CIS header on Smartmedia cards. If that is missing or damaged, any compliant Smartmedia device will not let you use the card. Many card readers are not Compliant and thus ignore the CIS block.

It is advisable to not try and "recycle" cards with a damaged CIS block by using them in a non complying card reader because of one of the reasons why the CIS block is there is to ensure something called the bad block table is present on the card as well. The bad block table maps the locations of bad memory cells and prevents writing to them so the card will apear 100% good. All cards have some bad cells from the factory even. Most likely the bad block table will be missing as well and your non complant card reader will end up writing over bad memory cells which will cause future read errors and data loss.

You would need access to a compliant Smartmdia reader that is compatible with the SMPREP (or similar) formatting utility to fix problem smartmedia cards. SMPREP fixes the CIS block and scans the entire card for bad memory cells and updates the bad block table.
