I am a Safe Specialist i have been reading some of your problems and this should help there is no code if you have lost yours only the default code for the model 1610 the default code is: 77,22,09,11,64 try that if you havent changed it and with this problem with people not getting the handle open with the green light happening i suspect this is a issue with the lock mechanism i have had many of the same problems with people bringing them in when you get you safe open it and where the lock is put some lubricate on the lock regulary as the lock sticks and wont open if you havent done this then you cannot get it open see you local safe specialist and tell them what i have said and they may or may not be able to get your safe open i hope this has helped Rob Safe Specialist World.
I'd try things in this order.
1. Replace Batteries
2. Replace Battery pack with a 9V (if it's a set of 4 AA batteries, the 9V will have more juice 9V vs 6V, and might get the job done)
3. Hit the door several times with a rubber mallet.
If you get it open, then pry off the plastic cover on the inside of the door, and spray the little locking mechanism with WD40. it seemed to work for me.

We have a Sentry 1610.
The green light indicated the correct 5 digit combination had been entered but it wouldn't open.
We unscrewed the battery compartment immediately below/behind the number pad and replaced the 9 volt batter.
Voila, it worked.
I dont know what model i have but you enter five digit has 3 lights when green will open.
Acouple of months ago I had the same problem and replaced the batteries and it opened fine. I guess the batteries had enough juice to work the key pad but not the lock rods!?

Had same issue where all batteries tested and had full charge. Just get rubber mallet and bang it after you get Green proceed light and work with the handle. Took about a dozen times and was able to open it. Don't forget to lubricate it (remove plastic first inside door).
If you have a sentry safe with an electronic lock (keypad) and a key backup, they use a magnetic type release that pops up and pushes on the manual key rod opening the safe when the 4-8 digit code is entered.
I was having a problem with my code not working. I thought the keypad and/or locking mechanism was bad. After opening it up, i saw that the electronic release was not popping up all the way. I sprayed the release with WD-40 and it works as good as new. This was for the XO55 model sentry safe.
My safe was giving the green Proceed light but the lock wasn't clicking when the code was entered. So I did as another poster suggested: replaced the 4 AA batteries in the front (slide the panel off the bottom of the keypad to get to them) and it worked fine.
It does seem like it didn't have enough juice to flip the lock even though the Low Battery light wasn't on (probably not enough juice to light up!)

Cut the bottom off of the safe.
It has 3 layers.
Thin sheet metal, cement, and plastic.
The door is the only hard place to get in.
These are meant to protect from fire, not from burglary.

just keep trying and it will open. i had to try like 20 times the other day and it finally opened. good luck because these safe's are junk !

I have a different model but I had the same problem. Called customer service and they had me push up on the handle and enter the code. That didn't work but then they had me tap the safe with a rubber mallet 5 times above the panel and 5 times to the right of the panel. That worked for me. Hope one of those works.

I have a Sentry 1610 Electronic Safe. Electronic Keypad only. The battery went dead so my stored combo is useless. However, the safe came with a default stored combo. I can not find the user's guide that came with the safe as I bought it years ago. The default code was included with the documentation. my problem is same with an Oxbow gun safe... the battery went dead while on vacation and now my combination will no longer work.... is there a code to enter to get it open ?
