U are at the mercy of the universal remote and will have to locate a another universal that will give you more versatility than the Phillips.
But do not expect much from the universals - they only have the most basic command such as volume, mute, channel, work.
I ahve same problem with my Coby tfdvd3297..I found that code 11265 works to comtroll t.v. (volume& power) but have not found a code to cotrollbuilt in DVD player..hope it works for you.
