Samsung surround sound wont connect up properly to samasung plasma tv

I have the samsung HT-Q100 surround sound system with the dvd all in one. i am trying to connect this to my plasma tv via the HDMI cable provided. i have followed the instructions several times over and when everything is connected up as stated i carnt get a picture from the dvd to the tv, nor is any sound coming out of the tv itself. the dvd is playing and the surround sound system is working as the sound from the dvd is playing. ive tried an optical cable as additional ways of means but that doesnt do anything any different. i though the surround system was faulty so i took it back and got it replaced and ive got the same problem still. surely this has to be compatable as the dvd and tv are meant to go together and ive seen the tv and the same dvd surround system for sale as one whole package. please help as im desperate and i dont know what to do next??

thanks,

damien

all i am getting is the dvd playing and the sound coming through the surround sound system. no picture is being displayed on the tv and no sound is coming from the tv. when i dissconect everything the tv works perfectly as it should do. ive searched all the options within the tv and dvd menu and tried various settings but still no joy at all. its getting abit of a joke now. it has to be something simple surely but i dont have a clue at all. ive even had a local tv repair guy round to my house and he didnt have a clue after messing around for 2 hours. im at my wits end and if anyone can solve this then they are pure geniuses. my gues is that no one will be able to solve this as im fairly techinical myself and im buggered if i know.

    thanks again,

the model number is PS50Q96HDXIXEU - 50 INCH PLASMA.

surely you should also get the sound from the tv as well as the surround sound to get the best out of both products. i know that on some systems this is possible and i kind of hoped this was possible with mine as the tv sound is excellent. the tv has 2 hdmi imputs one which is located on the side of the tv along with some other imputs and one sitiuated on the back of the tv. they are labeled up HDMI1 & HDMI3. i have swaped these around and selected all kinds of options on the menu but still no joy. i stuck well and truely here.

    thanks for the quick response,

i have got sky plus and all this is connected to the tv aswell. i have exchanged the whole system for another as i asumed the system was faulty. im having exactlly the same proble now and yes the HDMI cable is another one as is the whole surround system. yes i have put the HDMI cable into both connections HDMI1 & HDMI3 i have selected this within the tv menu settings and im still not getting any picture. it says no signal!! i went to currys and they said i needed an optical cable connection so i bought that and it does absolutely notthing at all. i just dont know what to suggest next as ive tried everything i can think of.

    thanks

the tv is brand new so there is no reason it shouldnt work and they have to be compatable with each other as i have seen this set up selling in currys. the tv guy didnt have a clue to be fair and his get out was finally saying the surround sound was faulty hence the reason i got it replaced to now find i have exactlly the same problem yet again. i am getting sound coming through the surround sound when connected to the tv so surely it cannot be the HDMI port itself thats faulty, and if that was the case for both the HDMI ports to be faulty would be quite bizzare. i dont think thats the answer. is there anyway you can find out a configuartion for this? there has to be an answer surely?

HDMI cables carry picture and sound, however, your system is a DVD player and surround sound in one. That being the case, it may simply not be sending the sound from your DVDs into the TV. If you had a receiver and were passing the HDMI signal from another DVD player (or satellite or cable TV), you should be able to get the sound from the TV as well. You are saying that you have put the HDMI cable in both HDMI inputs, selected the correct input from the TV and you are still not getting a picture, is that correct? Have you changed the HDMI cable? Perhaps this is the issue, if you have not done so.

What TV do you have? You said you connected the surround sound via the HDMI cable. Is the correct HDMI input selected on the TV? You should not get sound from the TV if you are playing a DVD from the player and it is connected HDMI. The sound should come from the surround sound system, as it is.

Hi

I had this problem for a week before I realised what I was doing wrong.

I have a 40'' Samsung LCD connected to .........

a PS3 with HDMI

a Sky HD Box with HDMI

a wii with scart

and a Samsung surround sound 5.1 with HDMI.

The Surround sound is connected to the Sky HD with an optical cable.

Also, the surround sound is connected to the TV with components, red and white, from the AUX IN 2 (on the surround sound) to the Audio out (on the Tv).

I dont know if this is the best way for this but when you put the surround sound on AUX 2 it works through the PS3, wii etc etc.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

I have just connected the optical cable from the surround sound in to the TV.

    This works better.

The optical cable is for digial SOUND, not picture. You are already getting this with the HDMI. If you have changed all these things, the problem MAY be with the television set. What did the repairman say to you? Is he sure the HDMI connections on your set are functioning?

You are operating under some false assumptions here. You are getting sound from your DVD player because it is decoding the sound and sending it to the speakers it came with. This sound is NOT coming from the HDMI cable or being sent through it, therefore if the TV HDMI inputs WERE bad (I agree, both being no good is rare, but it IS possible) you would still get the sound. Assuming that your HDMI cable is good and your connections are correct AND that you are selecting the proper input on the television, your system SHOULD be working properly. Without being there to see what is what, I cannot say from the information at hand what is causing your problem. You exchanged everything BUT the television, and a repairman did not find an issue. I'm sorry to say, I do not know what else to tell you, or where to tell you to turn at this point. Perhaps someone else on here can assist you further. Good luck.

Samsung HT Q 100 surround sound only works with DVD

Look on the subwoofer. Does it have an upmix switch? If not, you cannot upmix the stereo to all speakers. You can also check your TV menu options to see if it has the upmix feature (or similar).

HOME THEATER SAMSUNG HT-Q100

Your systemn is designed and built to perform 2.1 sound. If you want 5.1 sound you can do 2 things, connect another pair of speakers to the same speakerterminal as your front speakers, however this produces 5.1 stereo sound and not 5.1 surround sound.
You can buy a new system that has the proper connections.

This set will not have the proper decoding software to produce 5.1 surroundsound. sorry.

CAN ONLY GET THE SURROUND SOUND TO WORK WITH DVD'S NOT WITH NORMAL TV OR SKY?? WHY??

You should have a AUDIO menu in which you can simulate true surround sound. This should be in your owners manual. Your DVD is recorded in dolby surround sound that's why on your set it will be reproduced as recorded. I hope Samsung is using a ATSC tuner in that model?
