We have a small network in a construction trailer office and have one printer connected to the D-link PD-300U. Both the parallel cable and USB for the same printer are plugged in but none of the port lights are on and the printer does not print. We have other printers on the network not connected to the D-link that do work. What do I need to do to get the port lights to turn on when the printer is connected and get the printer to work?
Hello,
If your printer has a network port you should be using the network adapter.
Otherwise you want to make sure you connect the printer with a USB cable to the appropriate port on the D-Link.
Once the USB cable is connected you should be able to add the printer from your computer as a shared printer.
You will not normally see any activity lights on your router for the USB connection because it does not send or receive information the same way the LAN cables will.
I do recommend a LAN cable though as it works much better with routers. If your printer does not have one I would look into getting a network printer.
Thanks,
Pat
