When loading a cassette the compartment will only autoclose without a cassette, if I put a cassette in it will beep then reopen.
Reading other threads here the soloution that works, yes for real, slap it on the tape side (closed) a few times then try to reload the tape, if it doesn't work the first time, close it and try slaping a few more times. I had to do it a few times but it does work.
O.K. I want to apologize to everyone because I thought you were all nuts. This has happened to me before and putting it away for a year fixed it.It happened today and I was ready to throw it at the wall, so I figured why not try it. I turned it off without the tape in it and slapped it firmly three times. When I loaded the tape and turned it on it really worked. I had emailed Canon for a solution, I can't wait to tell them how I repaired there camera.THANKS ALL
I was having the same problem. I pull this camera out of the closet every Christmas. This Christmas Eve I could not get the cassette tape to load. Slapped it 5-6 times and now it loads! Thanks for the help!
WOW! Google, I love you. My search led me to you. Same friggin problem. I swaer if I counted the number of times I loaded and reloaded the cassette everyone out there would laugh at me.
I did what you said, thekidd23950, it worked. Canon you fools. Thank you very much folks.

Incredible advice - three slaps and the problem was resolved
Thanks
i can't believe it. it worked. thanks so much
I have the same problem and I tried to slap it a couple times with the compartment closed. It didn't work for me. Anyone has the same issue??
heck yes! I hit mine all over the place, but the one that worked was taping the battery pack! thanks for the help.
camera automatically beeps when i try and load the tape but when the case is empty it will close
I keep trying to fix it by tapping it, but its not working. Do you smack it with the cassette in or out?
I have the ZR200
LOLOLOLOL---HAHAHAHAHA . . . I REALLY can't believe that worked. I opened my well again, tried the tape, and it didn't work. I closed it, without the tape in it, and then spanked it on its bottom. Tried to put the tape in again, but it didn't work. So I closed it again, and this time, spanked it right on its face (The Grey Part, where it has the PLAY (VCR, OFF, CAMERA, and POWER written on it). I gave it three moderate whacks, with about 1 second in between hits, tried the tape again, and IT WORKED! I laughed at myself in the mirror, with my eyes wide open, enjoying the irony.
Thanks for the posts. It helped.
OK ... i was VERY doubtful ... but this actually did work ..... so much for high tech!!!!!! And I have been having this problem for months ..... a few smacks, and now it works fine ..... geesh ....
I haven't used my camera for nearly a year because of this frustrating problem! I was just about ready to send it in to Canon when I read about simply slapping my camera ... after three goods slaps, it's working like a charm!! Crazy I know, but hey, I'm using my camera again!
