Have an RCA 20F511T television that continuously loses power to the CRT. It is almost like a capacitor charges and discharges causing the screen to go from full picture to a single line, back to the picture and then to the single line again. It is cyclic and gets worse as the set warms up Thanks Tom

I tried your advice. With no input signal TV comes on and stays on (tried for 5 minutes). However when ever I change channels, the tv actually goes off and then comes back on. I remember now that is how the problem started. Thanks

When I change the channels, sometimes it takes a short time for the channel to change, but most of the time, I can hear the crt discharging, the screen projects a series of snow, vertical and horizontal lines, then the channel comes in.

I turn my RCA HD52W59 tv on and there is no picture. The green power light blinks 5 or six times but no picture.

Check the Capacitors on the Power supply board. They look like little soda pop cans. They all should be flat tops. If you see some buldging tops? They are bad and need to be replaced. Please use caution though Unplug the tv and discharg all large capacitors before proceeding. Cause even an unplugged unit the Caps hold a charge that can kill you.

1/2 of picture is ok; the other one only lines. What is?

If it's the top half that's lines and the bottom is ok, it's a problem in the vertical deflection circuit. Probably a dried out electrolytic capacitor.

If it's left to right, that gets more complicated. Please provide more info.

Tv won't turn on?

The main power supply section is not working.
(standby supply is OK)
Common possibilities are:
- High-voltage section (flyback transformer) has failed
(happens sooner or later, about 8 years typical))
- CRT tube has failed overloading the supply
- Power surge has popped the power input circuit.
(Fuse, rectifier diodes, turn-on relay etc)
- One of a hundred of electrolytic capacitors has failed short overloading the supply. They dry out with age, are cheap to replace, but hard to find which one it is.
- Or any of many other possibilities.

In short, you need a experianced tech to troubleshoot this.
