I DO NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN REPROGRAMME MY NUVI 1340 TO FIND THE SATELLITES AGAIN. MOST FRUSTRATING. PLEASE WILL YOU HELP.,..I AM NOT ALL THAT GOOD ON COMPUTERS. AWAIT YOUR HELP

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

non really, i went with my nuvi 1340 to the shop and they wouldn't even look at it, the salesperson just
said that from time to time the satellites change position in the sky and every 6 months i should go onto the computer and rig the nuvi up to it and ask for updates as the satellites change positions in the sky all the time and after 6 months or so, the nuvi cannot find them....i thought this was strange, but what do i know about moving satellites. after quite some time, i managed to download some update or other. inside the house even with the nuvi up against the closed window, it still cannot find satellites which it used to find even through a window. watch this space....i am going out later today so will take it outside where there should be NO EXCUSES not to find a satellite!

I TOOK THE NAVI 1340 BACK TO THE RETAILER AFTER FIGURING OUT HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE LATEST SOFTWARE AND
THE SATNAV STILL DID NOT WORK....IT COULD NOT FIND ANY SATELLITES! THIS WAS THE SECOND
TIME I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH A GARMIN.

    I DECIDED TO
UPGRADE TO A TOMTOM AND HAVE FOUND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GARMIN AND A TOMTOM LIKE DAY AND NIGHT. IF YOU CAN, ALWAYS BUY A TOMTOM...WORTH THE EXTRA, I CAN
ASSURE YOU. WITH TOMTOM YOU HAVE BETWEEN 7 AND 8 SATELLITES TRACKING YOU....

What do you mean program in the satellites? There is nothing to program for that, unit will when powered up and with a good clear site line to the sky will usually find and access the satellites on its own. If you are looking for the gps satellites they will already be programmed into the unit, if your looking for different satellites, well you got the wrong tool for that.

the salesperson just said that from time to time the satellites change position in the sky and every 6 months i should go onto the computer and rig the nuvi up to<-- That statement by your sales person is false. These are geosyncronous sattelites. They don't move, if they moved gps would be useless. The only thing an update should do is update your maps or some of the features in your gps unit. If i remember right there are a total of 30 satellites around the world for gps. They don't move. Go into your setup screen and find the gps section, this will show you the satellites, then go outdoors with the unit. If you still cannot find any satelites and would hazard the guess that your unit is defective and needs to be returned to the store for exchange. You may not like this answer but you can google "how many gps satellites " for yourself and see that i am in this instance at least I am right. Hope this helps. If you reply be advised will be 2 weeks before i post a response. On the road again. Hope this helps

Actually xenomorf43, the GPS satellites are not geosynchronous. Check it out.

Garmin nuvi 2225 will not acquire satellites in Europe. Worked fine in North America. I loaded maps for Europe but no action.

If the garmin can reach satellites in North America, it will reach satellites anywhere in the world as long as it has a clear line of site to the satellites. Depending where you are, the satellites can be higher or lower in the sky. This means that the garmin in your vehicle may not be able to see the satellites how you have it positioned in your vehicle. Try finding the satellites outside of your vehicle while in Europe. If you can, then the problem is positioning in your vehicle. The satellites are all the same kind no matter where you are.

My garmin nuvi 660 stopped receiving satellite signal. Reset has no effect. Everything else seem to work.

Power your unit on outside, make sure you have a clear view of the sky. If your unit is working properly, then it should pick up the satellites. If so, then you can put the unit back in your vehicle and make sure it is positioned to maintain a satellite lock. If you cannot acquire satellites outside, then the unit is defective.

My garmen Nuvi GPS takes a while to find the satelite when first plugged in

Try to connect it to your computer and update the satellites positions.

It shows me in a different state, then what I am, and I can't seem to get it to change.

Make sure you have a valid GPS signal. Choose your Home position.
Connect it to your computer to update the positions of the satellites Turn the GPS on once in a while and give it time to lock on the satellites.

My Garmin Nuvi seems to have gone insane. It can no longer find a satellite signal, tells me I am on a road I am not on, and tonight told me I was in the middle of the Puget Sound (ocean) heading towards...

OURS IS DOING THE SAME THING. APPARENTLY YOU HAVE TO PROGRAMME IT AGAIN TO FIND SATELLITES...YOU SHOULD DO THIS EVERY 6 MONTHS AS THE SATELLITES MOVE AROUND SPACE. I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY DOWNLOADING THE NECESSARY TO CORRECT THIS AS I AM
NOT THAT GOOD WITH COMPUTER THINGS. GOOD LUCK.

Trouble acquiring satellites

try the reset
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.

with the unit off, try pressing and holding your finger on the low right corner of the screen and slide the power switch to the on position until you see the message "confirm if you really want to delete all user data?" hit yes and let it restart. then it will set up the nuvi again, so follow the prompts.

if that fails, hook up the nuvi to the web updater and get the latest update

(actually i would do this either way)

Nuvi 200w

Found this thru Garmin support

Question: Why will my nüvi 2xx not find satellite signals?
Answer:
p>If your nuvi 2xx is not acquiring satellite signals, you may need to download and run our WebUpdater program.

Go to:

http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/

If you are still having issues after updating the software on your unit, you may need to do a full master reset. Please note that a master reset erases Favorites and waypoints. Before proceeding, you may want to back up information you want to keep.

To do a full master reset to the nuvi 200 series unit:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Place your fingertip or the eraser end of a pencil in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
3. Apply pressure in the bottom right corner of the screen.
4. While pressing down on the screen, power on the unit and continue pressing on the screen. A message displays to confirm that you really want to delete all user data.
5. Touch Yes.
6. Your unit restarts automatically. You must go through the set up procedure again.

Once you complete the reset, place the nuvi unit outside where it has a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15-30 minutes. Keep it in a stationary position until it reacquires satellites.
