If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here's the information you need to check the drain pump:

Symptom: PUMP IS RUNNING, BUT NOT DRAINING PROPERLY.

1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
5. Here's a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don't own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there's nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT - DO NOT FORGET!).
9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console - DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). "C00" will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.

NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

Kenmore elite 100 series.. fills with water for wash but drains immediately

If your Kenmore Elite 100 series washing machine is filling with water for the wash cycle but immediately draining without actually washing the clothes, there could be a few potential causes:

1. Faulty or clogged water level pressure switch: The water level pressure switch is responsible for sensing the water level in the tub and signaling the washer to stop filling once the appropriate level is reached. If this switch is faulty or clogged, it may be signaling the washer to drain the water immediately. You may need to replace the pressure switch or clean the hose that connects it to the tub.

2. Clogged drain hose or pump filter: A clogged drain hose or pump filter can prevent the washer from properly draining the water, causing it to immediately drain as soon as it fills. Check for any clogs or blockages in the drain hose or pump filter and clear them if necessary.

3. Broken or faulty drain pump: If the drain pump is broken or not functioning properly, it may not be able to properly drain the water from the washer, causing it to immediately drain. You may need to replace the drain pump if it is broken.

4. Malfunctioning control board: In rare cases, a malfunctioning control board may be causing the washer to immediately drain after filling. If none of the above solutions work, it may be worth having a professional technician inspect and potentially replace the control board.

Have old kenmore elite he3 washer. Have wet laundry after spin out. Have checked ball be low drum, replaced strainer, pump motor, cleaned all hoses. Did a test run in the drain and spin cycle. For like 7...

If the washer is taking more water during spin, then most likely it is thinking the water level is low for the load. It is a smart washer and tries to adjust water according to load. This can mean the level sensor is giving wrong sensor. I would try to run the washer with a cleaning agent (not bleach) available from specialist stores or washing machine retailers.
Also observe if the drain pump is running all through the spin cycle. If not that is likely causing water to remain. But controller is thinking there is no water and not starting the pump when required.

You should be able to locate the parts in these diagrams.

Water filling grinding noise

It may be teh Pupmp. Teh pump always turns on these units. They either pump water out to the drain or recycle it back to the drum. It sounds like during the Fill cycle, you have the Pump fins hitting.

My Kenmore elite he3t is giving me a problem in the spin cycle. Even thought the spin setting is set on high or extra high, the drum turns very slowly and will eventually stop and the washer starts...

The machine will not advance to the high-speed spin cycle unless the water is drained first. The F02 error code manifests this condition as it means draining problem. Either the pump filter is blocked, the drain hose is clogged/kinked, the pressure switch is stuck in the full position, or the pump itself is not working. The display can be cleared by pressing the Pause/Cancel button twice.

Disconnect power and remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily.

Once the panel is off, remove the filter by turning the knob counterclockwise. Clean the filter from any debris that prevents water from draining out properly. Click on the link below for further troubleshooting should the cleaning of the filter does not resolve the problem.

Kenmore elite top load washer will not drain and buzzes until unplugged

Hello there:
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port. Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job. If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

I have a kenmore elite not draining cleaned out by pump no blockage pump bad

Remove the lower panel and put the machine in a spin mode and see if the drain pump sounds like it is working. You may have to remove the hose from the pump to the bottom of the main drum. You could have a sock or something small get around the spin tub and make its way to the hose going to the pump and blocking it. Also check to make sure there are no crimps in the drain hose going from the pump to the main drain.
If every think is clear and there is power going to the pump and still not working, replace the drain pump and motor assembly.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems: If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess. If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Take the lower panel of the washer front. The pump is right behind the panel either in the center or to the right side. (Depends on model)
