LG Fridge making intermittent sound - like something hitting fan

Some times refrigerators make a noise that sounds like a tick. It could be caused from the refrigerant flowing through the lines. This usually happens when the refrigerator first starts up and goes away after a few minutes. the other possibility is a fan motor blade taping the shroud from time to time. The refrigerant issue is not something that can be fixed. The fan blade issue could be fixed by moving the fan blade back or froward on the shaft a slight amount. If you have a 10 cu ft refrigerator it may not have a fan.

There are 2 things in that area that can make a noise, the ice maker,and an evaporator fan,depending on the model.The fan is an easy fix if the blade is just hitting something ,but you have to be abit mechanically inclined to get to it.The icemaker has a little motor that sometimes gets stuck in the ice harvest mode,then you just have to unstick it ,also depending on what kind of fridge you have..everything else is down at the bottom,compressor,condenser,ect. In any case you probably want to call a tech unless its old,because repairs would be more than it is worth.

1. Open the freezer to see if the noise gets louder. If the noise becomes louder with the freezer open, the noise is likely caused by the evaporator fan. If the evaporator fan is the culprit, replace it to get rid of the noise.
2. Take raer panel off inside freezer and check there is no ice build up which is hitting the fan
3. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and check the condenser fan at the back of the fridge. A metal panel may cover the fan, which can be unscrewed. Listen to see if the fan is the source of the noise. If it is, the fan may need to be cleaned or replaced.
4. Unplug the refrigerator, and listen to the back side of the fridge. The fans will immediately stop running. If the back of the fridge continues to make a noise after the fans have shut off, the sound is most likely coming from the compressor, which is located at the back of the fridge, near the bottom. If you have a compressor problem, you either have to replace the compressor or the entire refrigerator.

Pull the fridge away from the wall and inspect the compressor. Your description sounds like the compressor is hitting something. It is rubber mounted and usually can be pushed away from whatever it is hitting.You do not want to jamb something to stop the noise, as the compressor needs to move freely. Many compressors shake during start up and shutdown, and this is considered normal. Abnormal if the compressor hits something during this movement.

I think that sound come of the fan in the freezer. This sound is intermittant. It's possible that problem is cause by a defect bearing?

Look closer because ice can build up and the fan just barely hits it making the noise. If the fan blades are not hitting anything, replace the fan motor as the bearings are getting worn out.

Any noise in the fan needs to be corrected soon. It could be something trapped there or it could be something is wrong with the fan or the fan blades. To lose the operation of that fan will stop cooling and chance damage to the compressor from over heating. I recommend that you unplug and pull away from wall. Try lubricating all fan bearings that you can get to. Make sure fan blades not hitting any thing.

hi thanks for the question .It sounds like the fan in the fridge is rubbing locate the fan and clean out the obstacle thanks the appliance doc

Unplug your unit and check the fan blade by manually rotating it with your finger, check if the blade is not touching the fan blade frame. Check if the screws are not loose, align the fan blade and re tight the fan blade screws.

12 years old=junk it! Sounds like compressor is going out...Sorry
