The dehumidifier runs but is not releasing any moisture. The coils are not icing up.

I see that you have frost accumulating on the coils of your Frigidaire dehumidifier, LAD704DUL. Typically frost appears on coils either because your dehumidifier has been turned on recently or the room temperature is too low. Sometimes this is normal due to refrigerant rushing through the coils and usually it disappears within 60 minutes. However, if your dehumidifier is not removing moisture, then at this point your dehumidifier may possibly been experiencing a sealed system issue. Is your appliance still in warranty? If so, you might want to reach out directly to the manufacturer to determine the coverage on your dehumidifier and the procedures to any potential remedy in that regard. Hope this helps! - Z

Well, sounds like you have a good cold section in the dehumidifier-- that is good!-- But I agree-- we don't want water condensing on the surface-- and we surely don't need it turning to ice!
A couple questions to help us get to the next level of trouble shooting this problem:
1.) How cold is the room you are running the dehumidifier in?
(Obviously-- the warmer a room is, the easier to remove moisture--
the colder the room, the easier to drop the air temperature well below the freezing point-- making ice.)

2.) Have the air filters been cleaned/changed recently?
A dehumidifier needs a steady fast moving supply of air across its whole condenser/evaporator surface, in order to remove the maximum amount of water from the air, and not freeze up. (I would winder if something isn't blocking the flow of air toward the top of the coil?-- so that the coil in that area is going well below freezing temperatures, and thus allowing water (or ICE!) to develop near the top of the coil?-- Can you check air flow for us?

3.) You have suggested a good solution,-- especially if the above problems can not be easily corrected: Turn off the unit every few hours, and allow the warmth of the room, to defrost the coil....
In fact-- just to make sure that the air flow is not being restricted by ice deep within the coil-- let it stay off over night-- or bring the dehumidifier into a much warmer room, to make sure no ice is still blocking air flow deep within the coil..

Let us know what you learn about air flow, and get back with us-- THen maybe we need to take the trouble shooting deeper insicde the device.

Yes. Wet clothing would act to put Humidity in the air. think of the air as a sponge the more you heat the air the more the air will take moisture out of its surrondings. The more you cool the air the less moisture it can hold.
a Dehumidifier is a reverse refrigrator.. Air is forced over cool coils and the moisture forms and freezes on the coils (ice). The unit turns off and the coil and ice takes heat up from the surrounding area (makes room colder;Clothing takes longer to dry; The temperature in that room should be were people reside 70-80 degrees). the ice melts and water drips into a holding container which you dump periodically. Solution: 1. remove wet clothing or 2. raise temperature in room. 3. put a space heater in that room instead of Dehumidifier

The coils you see on the back of your dehumidifier are the evaporator. When the unit runs, the coils get very cold. As the fan draws the room air over the coils, the humidity in the air condenses out of the air onto the cold coils. But, if the temperature of the air the fan draws over the coils is too cool, the humidity that condenses out of the air freezes on the coils. To remedy this problem, you can try any of these: Warm up the room the dehumidifier is in. Put the dehumidifier on a sturdy table (the room air is coolest near the ground). Turn the unit off until the room warms up.

I'm surprised that you are trying to dehumidify if you are in the northern hemisphere right now.

But, before you go off trying to fix the refrigerant, see if you can get a glass of ice water to sweat near the dehumidifier. While relative humidity might be high in cold climates right now, it's a relative number, as the total grains of moisture is far lower than what it would be in a warmer climate. Cold air saturates easier, because it holds less, moisture.

Most people use a humidifier in the winter because they want to saturate the air with water, which is better for the human body, and minimizes static electricity.

I can help you diagnose the dehumidifier if you want. The coil should only get to 40 degrees or so. But the sweating glass of water will tell you if there is enough moisture in the air for the dehumidifier to wring out.

Check the coils for icing. You may need to remove a cover to see them. IF the temp is much below 65-70 degrees, there is a good chance of icing. Take it upstairs or where it is warm and try running it to see if it removes moisture. If it does, it is probably icing. Raise it off the floor as the temp is higher towards the ceiling. By condenser I assume you mean the compressor is running. Is there ice forming on the front coil?
