5. Step 5
Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.
6. Step 6
Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

My linksys wireless 802.11 g has stoped working. first i lost my secure wirelesss and then the linksys wire function. I have turn off and on on the linksys, but no connection and my home secured...

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of therouter with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I need the wep

you can find this out by connecting to your linksys router with a cat 5 cable.
in your browser such as internet explorer or firefox type
192.168.1.1
login with your login/pass that you assigned to it.
go to the wireless tab and go to security
it will show the the WEP key that is needed in order for your laptop or wireless devices to connect.
BTW I would recommended using WPA as WEP is not secured.

By using a WEP key, please find your manual below, download it, and go to SECURITY, it shows one step by step how to set your WAP/WEP "KEY" Once set, you are secure. As to logon to the WiFi network, you need the special "KEY" to do so.

I cant find my security key for my router, I am trying to add a computer

To check the wireless settings, use a computer that can get online or is hardwired connected to the router.

Follow the steps below:

1. In the address bar of your Internet browser, type 192.168.1.1

2. It will prompt you for the username and password. By default, the username is admin and then leave the password field blank.

3. Go to the Wireless tab.

4. Click the Wireless Security tab.

a. If the mode is WEP, take note of the Passphrase and Key (you need to copy only the default transmit key). If WEP encryption is 64 bits, you have to copy the 10 digits security key.

NOTE: If you are using a Linksys wireless adapter on the additional computer, you may use the passphrase for the security key.

b. If the mode is WPA, copy the Personal key or the Enterprise Key.

5. On the additional computer's wireless settings, select your SSID and enter the keys that you copied.

Cant locate it on th internet to secure it with wep

You cannot secure the wireless router over the Internet. Basically the wireless router is secured by opening a browser and entering the wireless router's URL configuration address.
To secure and set up encryption on your wireless router please follow my instructions - click on this link :-

The configuration URL for the Linksys is http://192.168.1.1 and the default login = admin and the default PW = admin

Where is the wep key on the router

Attach a laptop or PC directly to the Router and open your web browser. Then type http://192.168.1.1 and you will be taken to a web page. The web information is usually under the security tab or under wireless. When you enable WEP it will ask you for a pass phrase, under that you will see three unique keys. Any of these will work as a WEP key.

The default username, password on the Linksys I think is Admin:admin if you have not changed it. You can also reset the router to get the default password back if you forgot it.
