Need wiring and 9pin connector diagram

What should I do if I want the subwoofer only? I want to discard the 2 satellite stereo speakers, but want to be able to use the subwoofer by itself with the volume knob. Do you have any suggestions? i'm not an electrical engineer so this "pinout" is meaningless. All we want to do is hook up this subwoofer to a home stereo's "subwoofer" speaker wire hole with speaker wire.
We're looking at the back of the orange female vga connector. Which pin is #1? do the numbers circle back or go left to right or right to left?
Is it safe to assume that pin 3 and 4 (but i can't tell which pinholes are 3 and 4 because they're not just labelled) - Left and Right positive in must both attach to the one positive on the speaker wire from the stereo?
Then where does the negative wire (from the black attachment hole on the back of the stereo) attach to the pinholes? does it go to pin 5? which pin is pin 5? top row? 5 from the right or 5 from the left? And are the numbers from looking at the back of the speaker? or looking out at the connector from inside the speaker? it's all arbitrary.

Is there anything else you have us do with the power?
I just want this thing to work like a normal speaker that does what the stereo's "subwoofer" speaker wire tells it to do.

Do you really have to jump holes 8 and 9? is that going to start a fire? Do we plug this thing into the wall? will the jumper wire between pinholes 8 and 9 shock someone if they touch it?

I'm just trying to get this explained for someone who doesn't know anything about pin-outs.
