This sounds like a very low battery. If it won't charge up, then the battery may simply have come to the end of its useful life and need to be replaced.

your lens may be damaged...your zoom assignments may need to be realligned if there are no broken parts. If there are broken parts in your lens it may be better to get a new lens
You have a bad lens, you should take into a camera repair shop. The only other thing that can be possible is the cable from the lens to the camera man board may have not be making proper contact.
You have a bad lens or the flex cable from the lens to the camera board has come loose. Chances are the lens is bad. Costly and most often not worth repairing.
