You would need to remove it from the wall, using the installation instructions here, review the safety information here, then remove the outer cover and discharge the high voltage capacitor.

Then you can swap the magnetron.

Kitchen aid microwave blow 20 amp fuse on start.

Hello James
Having a 20 amps fuse is a bit high in todays standard as 15 amps fuses are recommended these days - they do not want too much current to go through the house wires.
Better to buy a new microwave as this microwave could burn down your house.

Kitchen aid microwave blow 20 amp internal fuse after 1 second only when starting runs 1 secod then blows fuse

Based on you information, if you disconnected magnatron and unit ran with no fuse problem, I would suspect magnatron. You should consider the age of unit it, may be be a better alternative to replace it.

Kitchen aid microwave model# khms 147 hss-1 runs but doesnt heat

Your problem is your mag tube (Magnatron) you can go to www.partsselect.com and your part number is PS2352604. Their price is $123.44. I work on micro waves myself and have found that if one isn't a built in over the stove like yours, they are not worth repairing because you can buy one cheaper. If this unit is not real old and you can replace this parts yourself it might be worth fixing bit if you are going to have it repaired, it might be cheaper to replace it. Good luck.

P.S. If you open this unit up. Make sure you bleed the capacitor off, this is one that will knock the _ _ _ out of you if you ground it by touching it. Bleed it by using screw driver to short capacitor to ground or case.

Power surge

The high-voltage transformer being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. The magnatron is only affordable to do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
