Printing in Black

Try to insert a different known working black cartridge to identify if it's a faulty cartridge issue.

The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 requires all the cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing even if your printing in "black and white" only.

YOU SHOULD USE HP 21 BLACK INK CARTRIDGE FOR BLACK PRINTING.IF YOU USE 22 COLOUR CARTRIDGE YOU WILL GET ONLY GREAY PRINTING ONLY.I AM RIGHT?IF YOU USE COLOUR CARTRIDGES MAY YOU WILL GET MONEY LOSE. BECOS IT WILL FINISH EARLY.BLACK INK COST IS LESSTHAN COLOUR INK CARTRIDGES. SO YOU SHOULD BUY BLACK CARTRIDGE FOR REAL BLACK PRINTING.

You might find that it is either printing the colour parts and not printing the black parts or it is printing the black parts but not the colour parts.

In this case you need to replace the ink cartridge that your printer is not printing. Either black or colour.

Ensure to get the exact same ink cartridges so that they work 100% in your make and model of printer.

Goto Printing preference and there you will see that wether there Grascale Printing option may be clicked. There you have to click color option and check it out once. else may be color catridge may dry also.

To get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P

Try cleaning the contact points of the cartridge itself and the unit that holds the cartridge with alchol. If still not printing try nossle cleaning from your printer properties.

Unfortunately, like most multi cartridge ink jet printers when one ink is empty the printer will cease printing regardless of whether you just want to print in black and white and you have plenty of black ink left. I have heard of people tricking the printer into believing the cartridge is full by placing coloured tape etc in front of the ink sensing device but I am not sure how the Brother senses the ink levels as i have some aftermarket ink cartridges for mine which seem to be completely non-opaque (unlike the originals). The need to have colour cartridges in even if you only ever print with black ink is good news for Brother as the MFC-210c uses a large amount of ink during it's routine cleaning cycles (that you cant stop) and will empty all 3 cartridges in under 6 months without ever printer a single drop of colour ink. Sorry about all the bad news, at least your not alone......
