We have a Panasonic counter top microwave.
Hi, I noticed electric sparks at power cord and microwave attachment. After that, for all subsequent runs, I notice very mild smell and some squeaky noise with the cord. I am still able to heat food.
Can you tell me what might have happened and how to fix it ?
SOURCE: Pop in the vent area followed by no heating
This is not likely a door switch problem. That pop was probably a part blowing, most likely the high voltage rectifier diode. If you or a friend want to check into and repair this, here is a good link for safety info & do-it-yourself info: http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html Find & buy GE repair parts here: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ If that isn't it, please repost with new details. Good luck and be safe. Your rating of this answer is appreciated.
SOURCE: Microwave makes loud noise and does not heat. Smell of light burning
Chances are you have a bad magnetron.
If
it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years)
but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your
manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or
the labor charge to do the work.
If
you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety
information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
There
should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your
thoughtful rating of our answer.
SOURCE: when I plug my microwave into wall outlet sparks
Well, the breaker has trip, but the microwave must have a short in it.Go turn turn back on and don't plug the microwave back into it to see if everything works.
SOURCE: My Frigidaire over the stove microwave not heating food
Hi,It is most likely the magnetron and diode that has to be replaced. This job should be done by a tech, High voltage. Magnetron's normally have a five year warranty, check your owners manual.

Hi, Thank you very much for your reply. What I meant to say, is the sparks appeared once at microwave and power cord attachment not at the outlet. After the sparks, there is no charring on the power cord. The microwave is working fine now but hearing new spur and slush sound after I turn on the microwave. As of now , microwave is working fine but I still hear hear the new sound whenever I use the microwave. This new sound comes only for 2 secs immediatly after I start the microwave.
when I turn on my microwave sparks come from the cord by the outlet.
It still sounds like a bad connection that is arcing.
What brand and model do you have?
What do you mean by "microwave attachment"?
I would say you have an old outlet and it may have caused charring on your power cord.
If this is the case I would definitely recommend a new outlet and cord.
