How do I get a stuck light bulb out of the refrigerator?

My GE fridge light bulb is blown, and I can't get the bulb out. Short of shattering the glass, how can I get the bulb out?

  • Anonymous Jul 12, 2008

Yes I cannot get mine out either - its in there good - does it screw out? Push and turn? suggesting to wear a rubber glove does not really tell how to remove the bulb...

Simple, use a hair dryer (on high heat) on the base of the bulb for a few seconds. The bulb will come out easy. Cold expands and is what made it stick. This has worked every time for me.

My Amana had two stuck light bulbs in the refrigerator section. Using a soft rubber jar top remover I was able to get them out but it took many tries. Wiggling them seemed to help free it up too. I tried a hard rubber jar top remover first but it was abit too stiff to get as much of a grip as the soft one. If you don't have soft rubber top remover, something like very soft leather - the rougher side - may work. As other say - turn off breaker to keep power off in case you break the bulb.

Don't forget to put a box or something underneath to catch the pieces of glass as they shatter.

Use a soft rubber glove. the worst thing that could happen is the bulb breaks, then use pliers to remove the base. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE UNIT FIRST!

What size bulb goes in the oven

Seems that regular bulbs really don't like the high heat or getting splattered with cooking juices, shatter at the first contact with liquid. Think you better spend the couple of extra $$$ and not have to clean up a shattered glass mess in your oven.

The lights stopped working in the refrigerator. I thought both bulbs had blown and replaced them. Still no lights. Is there a fuse to replace? Not sure what's going on.

Check lights connection with thermostat for correct connection. if there is a short or arching then you will keep replacing these bulbs.

Light bulb replacementR

A fridge light bulb is usually a 40 watt appliance bulb with a screw base. It is heavy duty to last in the temperature. If it is not easily accesible to unscrew and replace, there may be plastic cover to unsnap.

Hotpoint FFA80 fridge freezer

Depends where the 'BigBang'was located. Taking the interior light out and replacing it then a bank seems to suggest the bulb had met its end. Take bulb out again to see if it is sooted up- be careful in case the envelope is cracked or shattered. Check the mains fuse in the plug Move the Thermostat up to full and listen for the unit to fire up. What did you get?
