My SyncMaster 203B will not stay on. If i turn it off and then on several times it will usually start working correctly. Reminds me of when the ballast in a fluorescent light starts going out. I use this moniter with my laptop when i am in the office. i usually unplug the monitor from my laptop when i leave the office and reconnect it when i come back in. When the monitor is turned on for the first time it gives me an almost white screen with no images. if i turn it off and then back on it will give me a faint image of the images but will then go black. if i continue to turn the monitor off and on it will come back at full power and stay on (unless the computer goes into sleep mode). thanks...Mark

Mark081007, Yes, it could be the "electronic" ballast circuit or the "switch-mode-power-supply" could be going bad or there are swollen electrolytic filter capacitors populating the SMPS circuit board that need to be replaced with good ones or unit may have some poor intermittant solder connections (thermally stressed) causing this problem. Do some reading in my and "buddymc" and "budmrtn" and "louie12fix" (OLD FILE) FIXYA profiles for lots more info that you WILL NEED to make decision on just what you will do about your monitor's black/white screen problem!! Mark, you certainly have a lot of research to do. Problem not new and your ccfl back-lit lcd display isn't any different than ANY other brand in it's basic design and operation principle. Follow all links to other sites for even more info. I'm surprised you haven't been to YOUTUBE for clues about lcd disassembly and repair videos that will help you make decision to do DIY repair or farm-out the work. Once you find out what makes your lcd screen show you all the pretty colors, you will never walk past the energy saving, curlieQ, screw-in, CFL light bulbs in the hardware or homecenter without having a wide smile on your face each time you pass by them!!! Bye for now. 12fixlouie

My syncmaster 203B screen is black until I turn it off and on several times before it will stay on.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I turn the computer on and the monitor will stay dark even though it is turned on. Then I turn the monitor on and off a few (10) times and eventualy the poicture comes through. I have the monitor hooked to...

It may be caused by 2 reasons:

1. The notebook is not correctly configured for an external display - you may need to install the display drivers or update it.

2. The backlight inverter on the display may have problems and need repairs. Check if you can see a faint image in the screen.

How to rotate display when I rotate screen - SyncMaster 203B

You ought to be able to bring up the video card settings from your control panel and change it there. For instance I have a nVidia graphics card. When I bring up the settings panel it offers me the opportunity to change the rotation there.
