How difficult is it to replace backlight inverter on a LCD TV?

How difficult is it to replace backlight inverter boards on a 42 inch Vizio tv, any soldering required? I took my tv to a local repair guy and come to find out that both inverters on my tv have to be replaced he informed me this would cost around $475.. well I bought this tv for $700 two years ago and don't want to pay that much. I was wondering if this is something that I could do myself? I don't know much about tv repair but form all the videos and forums it looks fairly easy.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

Replacing LCD inverter board is very easy.Does not involved in any soldering.It a long board in shape.Just take ur tv aparts,use a Philip screw driver take out 6 Philip screws each board and connections.Do the reverse to install the LCD inverter boards.Tries Websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy refurbish LCD inverter boards.

That sounds like an inverter problem. Check the capacitors on the inverter boards. There will be two on each board. The master inverter will be on the far left side, and the slave will be on the far right side. You will have to remove the metal covers over the inverter boards. Should be 4 small phillips head screws. If the capacitors have bulging tops, replace them.

you cant the backlights are an integral part of the LCD panel. The backlight inverters Boards) can be replaced but the actual backlights are inside the LCD panel assembly.

Philips 42PFL7422D/37 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Picture went out but still have sound. Any tips on how to fix it?
If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.

The backlight on my new Vizio tv dosen't light up and i can't get the clearity I had when Ifirst set it up is there a way I can get the back light to go back on.
If you look inside the television through the vents and see that the backlight is not working, the problem could be a broken backlight inverter board. The backlight inverter board is used to project video onto the screen. If this is your issue, the board will need to be replaced.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time
If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
