My PC while booting shows me a message sockserv.exe error. I have a 3Com 3CRWDR101A-75 router which is connected to a XP SP3 PC and has a laptop which logs in via wireless. I also have a problem of Images not opening in any of the browsers. This, I understand is due to the internet connection. Which means that I have some serious issues with the Internet and/or the router. Also please note that I had recently added an update to teh router. So now when I open 192.168.1.1, I find an extra section for in the LAN menu. This is called VLAN. I have no idea how to revert back to the non updated version . Hence I now request help for: 1. SOCKSERV.EXE error 2. Images not loading in any Browsers 3. How to set my Router software back to what it was before the update. Best regards Anand Mohan

SOURCE: Connected on Wireless but unable to connect on Internet

If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration") IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network. For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually Gateway = 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 IP Adress = 192.168.1.10(choose alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1) Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round

SOURCE: wireless routers

Just plug the cable modem ethernet into the input to your router and you will be fine. Just remember, if you decide you want to make any changes to your router settings through your browser, make sure you hook up an ethernet line from your laptop to the router before making any changes. The reason for this is if you make a change in security settings on your router while wireless, the router will reboot and if your laptop did have the settings changed in it, you can be locked out.
Not that you can't get back in, but it is a pain to have to do.

SOURCE: Wi Fi fine, ISP fine, no internet via LAN connection though.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking your ability to go to websites. I saw this the other day, somehow the users firewall was set to block all internet traffic out of the computer.

SOURCE: wireless internet connection

I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?

Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.

Can i connect a usb hard drive to a 3com 3CRWDR101A-75

It appears that this router is suitable for network hard drive not USB hard drive. Currently most hard drives available in the market are network compatible.

We have a 3CRWDR101A-75 3com wifi router and its not upgrading the firmware, I downloaded the firmware from the site and then when I try to upgrade all I get is file verification failed... any thoughts...

The downloaded file is "corrupt", and thus it fails the "verification" process.

Download the firmware again, and compare the two files.

Or, use a different computer to download the firmware, and to do the firmware-update.

When my pc starts up i get the message :Air GCFG .exe- entry point not found. Then I get a second error message saying Procedure entry point aspInitialize not found in the link library wlanapi.dll

did you update from sp2 to sp3 remove sp3 for one reason
fixed it by going to Windows Defender, Tools - Software Explorer and
disabled AirGCFG.exe from automatically starting at boot.** Now I don't get the error message and
the Dlink NIC card works just fine.
AirGCFG is a NIC monitoring function and the NIC will work without it.
Dlink was advised and reported back that SP3 was still Beta and they may work on the problem after
MS releases the final SP3.
I informed them that they did not know what was what and I would not hold my breath until they fix
the problem.
Found out the problem was due to a new version of the wlanapi.dll file introduced with SP3 that
conflicts with the Dlink monitoring file.

** Note: AirGCFG did not show up in the "msconfig" startup listing. But does show in Windows
Defender, with an explanation of what it does.

Win xp home, user accounts won't connect to net

Hey there tabath, I have recently encountered this problem. It turned out that we were connected via a switch rather than a router. It seems the switch will allow you to network with each other, but only allow the admin connection to access the internet. Please check your exact model as 3com manufactures both products. Hope this helps.Good Luck!

My 3com officeconnect doesn't work after upgrding the firmware

Are you able to login to the router? If you can reset the router to factory defaults..If you can't login to the router...Is there an external reset button on the router you could try to reset. with a paperclip? Otherwise, I had this happen on a linksys router/switch. New router time. You should just return it where you purchased the product. There was already something seemingly going wrong if it was rebooting. 3 weeks? just return it. don't even mention the firmware update. Here is the site info for 3com: http://knowledgebase.3com.com/ OfficeConnect - Firmware upgrade fails with incorrect user interface image Problem: Incorrect user interface image Problem: Firmware upgrade fails Problem: Error when upgrading firmware Problem: Incorrect firmware Problem: Wrong firmware Fact: Firmware Fact: Download Fact: Update Fact: Upgrade Cause: The downloaded .exe has not been extracted Fix: The downloaded .exe needs to be extracted by double clicking on it. When performing the firmware update use the extracted files that were obtained from the "exe" file. e.g You will obtain a "bin" or "dlf" type of file which is the firmware required for your upgrade. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
