Try cleaning the lens directly by carefully using a cotton swab and alcohol. Update this with your results.

I have not played my cd changer for a year and when I just try to play a cd now the system appears to look for cd but the word error comes up on the display. Just the word error not number. Any ideans...

Hi!

I dont't think that your cd-changer is broken. It may only need some cleaning. One year is time enough for dust to set on optical reader. I suggest to use a cleaning disk, available on every store selling optical media.

Hope it helped,

Hello. My DVD player will not play past the first few seconds of DVD. I've tried with 3 different disk and the same thing happens. I've cleaned all disk and still haven't been successful....

What I can think of the Lens inside your player may have dust etc on it.

If you have a CD/DVD Lens clearer disk try that, Then see if you can get it working better.

I have a technicks sl-pg380a audio player and it reads no disk..i tried putting in other disk everything..i took it apart and found out one of the motors wasnt working..the one that spins the disk..how can...

Be careful. The unit will attempt to verify that a disc is present BEFORE it tries to spinb the disk. If the optics are defective, this can happen. First try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Try to play a clean disc. If it fails to play or read the TOC, then the optics need to be replaced.

Please keep us posted,

I AM HAVING ERROR EACH TIME I TRY TO PLAY A CD.

When your CD does not read any disk, and returns error, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, or a faulty spindle motor unit.

If it is a lens problem, then you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only few CD, DVD. After more prolonged usage , the unit will start losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all, and returning error.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the player , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the lens, or the whole drive unit.

My Technics SL-DZ1200 will not play certain MP3 tracks. It will play some, but on others the message "track error" appears. these same disks will play just fine on the other cd player machines I have...

I believe it can only read certain bitrates. I noticed that if I run the track error files through audacity and re-save as an mp3 with 192 kbps encoding it plays fine. Give it a try - re-encoding.

When Making A CD To Play On My technics SL-PD8 It

If thhis happens quite often , and does not depend on the media, then it is usually a dirty lens problem. The lens is dirty or scratched and sometimes cannot read CD TOC (table of content).

If this happens only on reocrded CDs , try changing the media used. For example if you used +R, try with -R.

If this happens on all media, then try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner CD or blowing some canned air on the lens.

SL-PG380A

I know it's late but i happen to have received the same unit for free, and it had the same problem. The reason for the message is that the laser weakens over time and cannot reach the CD anymore. If you try holding a disc directly above the lens, to the back of the spindle, you will see the motor starting to spin. That means the laser is still working but too weak to reach to the height of the spindle. The solution is simple. Take the drive unit out and remove the three screws on the board at the back of the drive. Carefully lift that board, there is a flex cable connected to it you don't want to break. You will see a little variable resistor with three pins. Measure the single pin against both of the other two. One should read 3.something kOhms, the other 1.something. Mine read 1.35. Using a small screwdriver turn the resistor to the right until the side that read 1.35 reads something around 700 ohms. I left mine at 740 and it works fine. Put the drive back together and load a disc. It should now work again. Don't set it any lower than 400 or you will damage the laser. If it doesn't work with 800-400, the laser is probably damaged and the drive needs to be replaced entirely, which is not worth it.

Technics SL PJ27

First I think you should turn your player on and wait 5 - 40 minutes before before you start liste3ning music.
because electrolytic capasitors may be little broken and those can repair themselves but it takes a while.

Good rule of thumb is that If you don't use every day an old device
then you should give to it every time a soft start . like I mentioned earlier
turn power on and wait.

Second try to play music cd which don't have any scratches and without any copyprotections

Third Disconnect power cable

Then open device and try to clean all dust.

Look for hairs and other difficult to see objects uselly
you find at least one hair inside old cd player.
If hair is around disk spindle it maybe difficult to
remove.

Check that cd-disk makes good contact so remove even tiniest dust and hairs
between cd-player and copact-disk. It may be called spindle or what ever but
still try to clean it with Isopropyl alcohol and remove dust and filth.

Check laserlens and is there some dryed liquid stains if there is try to remove those
with Isopropyl alcohol and swabs. Don't use any force and you can tear a top of swab little longer
(about one inch) and you get swabs which are much easier to use these kind of delicate cleanings.

Lubricate every moving part with lithiumgreese don't make any mess.

This last fix is for most desperate ones.
Connect the power cable and push eject and be carefull because
you can get fatal electric shock.
Disconect power cable. You can use extension cord which have on/off powerswitch.
You can see six tiny trim pots.
First take photo of those pots so you can undo all changes.

Change only one pot and only about 1/8 of turn. Turn power on and test if you make it worst or better.
If you think you fixed the problem that is not the case ... yet.
Then you have to make finall test and play a lot of music cd:s and after that you have fixed the problem.

Make notes which cd:s and what track your player don't play properly and use those
cd:s to testing those trimpot changes.
