Why double filter on Maytag Microwave

One looks like a carbon filter and the other is a grease filter. Do we need both filters or just one. Oven is venting to the outside.

If your range hood or microwave recirculates back in to the room.

Both filters are required. The mesh filter catches the grease & air particulate. The carbon filter should be changed regularly www.HoodFilterFactory.com ( avoid range fires that spread quickly) & clears the recirculated air from smoke, odors, & airborne particulate.

With yours venting to the outside, you ONLY need the mesh filter. These filters should be cleaned regularly ( Avoid mentioned hazard) & should be replaced when you can no longer clean them enough to see through them when holding up to the light.

Good Luck

Need to clean upper filter, not bottom filter, does grille pop out?

Yes the grill pops out. It snaps in to place. Behind there is a Carbon Filter, and cannot be washed. The internet says the should be changed every 3 to 6 months, yet we use our microwave once a week and change mine every 9 months.
The carbon filter elimiates smoke, odors and grease build up on cabinets and walls.

We buy filters from HoodFilterFactory because they can make any size we need.

I hop this helps

WMH 1162X VS -1 (watts unknown) Builder purchased

If the oven is set up to vent outside, then the metal mesh grease filters are used, and they should be cleaned in warm soapy water whenever they look greasy or dirty.

If the oven is set up to recirculate, then the charcoal filter is used, and it must be replaced (not cleaned) every 6-12 months, depending on use.

This model does not have a separate cooling fan like most other models. It replies on the vent fan for magnetron cooling, so if the filter(s) gets too dirty, it can reduce the cooling air flow, which can allow the magnetron to overheat and be destroyed.

I would need to know a little more to help narrow down the "no heat" problem.

If the cooling fan, turntable, and inside light all come on when you press "Start" to cook, then I would ask if you here a "thump" when you press "Start."

If so, then the high voltage section is getting energized. If not, then it may be the cook relay on the control board, which I can affordably repair.

The support page for your oven is here, and it has manuals and part lists you can download.

Light won't go on; Model MMV1153WB-O

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Frigidaire, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

Enter it as MMV1153WB0 (no dash, zero on the end, not "oh")

Or just get it here, to be more exact.
On page 4, it says:

"Installing/Replacing Filters and Light Bulbs
■ Grease filter: Grease filter is on the underside of microwave
oven. Clean monthly. Slide the filter away from the tab area,
and drop out the filter. To reinstall, place end of the filter into
the opening opposite the tab area, swing up the other end,
and slide it toward the tab area.
■ Charcoal filter: The charcoal filter is behind the vent grille at the
top front of the microwave oven. The charcoal filter cannot be
cleaned, and should be replaced about every 6 months.
Remove 2 screws on the vent grille, tilt the grille forward, lift it
out, and remove filter. To reinstall, place the filter into its slotted
area – wire mesh side up, replace vent grille, and secure with
screws.
■ Cooktop light(s): The cooktop light bulb(s) is(are) located on
the underside of the microwave oven, and is(are) replaceable.
Remove bulb cover screw, and open the bulb cover. Replace
bulb, close bulb cover, and secure with screw.
■ Cavity light: The cavity light bulb is located behind the vent
grille at the top front of the microwave oven, under the bulb
cover, and is replaceable. Remove 2 screws on the vent grille,
tilt the grille forward, and lift it out. Open bulb cover and
replace bulb. Close bulb cover, replace vent grille, and secure
with screws."

HINT: Unplug the oven before removing or installing the bulbs, or you may need this service.

Does this microwave oven use charcoal filters

Hi.

The only time your microwave will use a charcoal filter is if it is mounted over the stove, as a microhood, and discharges into the room, rather than up a stack. If yours is set up as a hood, you'll have the woven grease traps underneath, and the filter will be behind the upper grille.

Wrong Grease Filter for Sharp R-1870 Microwave

I also have a Sharp over the Range Microwave oven that requires a charcoal filter. But my diagram shows that the charcoal filter goes behind the slotted panel at the top of the microwave. To reach the filter, you must remove a screw on the top edge of the microwave. This allows the panel to come off. Your charcoal filter goes there. Since your oven is new, you do not need to change this filter yet because it's not dirty. I would save it for future use.
According to my book, there are two kinds of filters with this oven. The charcoal filter is the one behind the front panel. The Grease filters ARE the two metal mesh ones. They can be cleaned with hot soapy water, or I put mine in the dishwasher.

Exaust fan has weak suction on maytage mmv4205baw

This is due to poor air flow, either to a blockage or a problem with the internal cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan.

Are the grease filters or charcoal filter clogged?

You may want to check your owner's manual for info on checking the filters. Grease filters can be cleaned, but charcoal filters must be replaced about every 6-12 months.

The installation manual will tel you if there's some error in the installation setup.

Opening mmv5165ba to clean filters

Unless your Microwave is older, you have a problem. The newer electronic ovens require a lot of ventilation to keep their circuits from overheating. Further, I know of no microwave recipes that produce grease. You may want to get back to me on this.

MMV1153BAW - Exhaust Fan

You or the installer should refer to both the installation instructions and owner's manual to be sure the venting is correct, the filters are not clogged, and the outside exhaust is not blocked, such as by an animal nest.

Proper cooktop ventilation is very important to keep the microwave cool and keep steam and grease out of the controls.

Carbon filter

If it is vented back into the room a filter is necessary, otherwise it just circulates the steam and cooking odors into the room. The unit is not sold with a carbon filter because it is not known if it will be vented outside or not. I'm not sure where the least expensive place to purchase one is.
