Sounds as if your motor is defective. It has an internal thermal switch which cuts the motor off before it gets too hot. After it cools, the switch makes up and the unit is able to run again.

Humming noise, runs and stops thru out drying process.

You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.

Whirlpool dryer

If your dryer stops during its cycle, wait ten minutes and start dryer again. If dryer starts, then the motor was overheating.

Solution, Check for lint blockage around the motor and for possible overloading. If dryer repeatedly stops during its cycle, especially during consecutive loads, replace motor.

Good luck

I have a whirlpool dryer LER5636EQ3 that will shut off after 3-5 mins.

I'm wondering if the motor may have a problem & getting too hot it most likely has a breaker built into the motor that shuts it off if it gets too hot . If that's the case it should reset after a while when it cools . You might try running it then when it stops let it sit for a while & see if it will start again . If it starts let it run when it stops again feel the motor & see if it is real hot . Just something you could check . Hope this helps

Whirlpool dryer stops after 5 minutes

Locate the circuit breaker for the dryer. Run the dryer for awhile and with the back of your finger pressed against each of the two switches (it will be a double breaker), see if the breaker is getting warm or wait until the dryer quits then check the breaker for any noticeable increase in temperature. With properly rated breakers, they should not get warm. If getting warm, it is a sign the breaker is bad and should be replaced.
